Hull’s newest phenomenon set to release their first single of the year ‘Long Ago’
Fever have announced their first single of 2023 ‘Long Ago’ which is set for release on Friday 10th March via Very Clever Records.
The single will come out ahead of a UK tour, supporting The Clause, starting in Liverpool and ending Newcastle. The lads are looking forward to returning to the stage with a brand new, fresher sound.
Speaking on the single, James Harrod says: “‘Long Ago’ was inspired by someone close to me who’s been subject to trauma in the past. It touches on the bitterness they felt from it and the ways in which they attempted to heal through spiritual approaches.”
Leading on from the success of previous band Fronteers, James Harrod (lead singer) formed Fever with childhood friends Joe Gray (drums) and Mitch Capes (guitar) in 2018. Sam Howell (keys) and Ellis Keogh (bass) joined in 2019 to complete the formidable line-up.
The latest cultural ambassadors flying the flag high for the city of Hull—whose rich musical output impressing on an international stage currently includes the likes of Low Hummer, LIFE, Bdrmm, Slowdaze, Priestgate and Downtown Kayoto—the quintet are proud local boys, born and bred.
Regularly drawing from real life experiences and local stories in their songwriting, Harrod and Capes are childhood friends whose shared love of guitar lessons saw them quickly bond and form a lasting friendship based on music. The rest of the band are journeymen of the local scene, who have formed the backbones and rhythm sections of various Hull bands over the years.
Fever’s last single ‘Too Close’ got the band’s first play on BBC Radio 1 with Gemma Bradley as well as garnering their first editorial playlist on Spotify in ‘Hot New Bands’.
Prior to ‘Too Close’, Fever also caught the attention of multiple editorial playlists, including Amazon Music’s Best New Bands, Apple Music’s Best in Rock and Best in Alternative and YouTube’s New in Alternative.
The lads have also garnered the support of Radio X (Gordon Smart, John Kennedy), BBC 6 Music (Steve Lamacq, Chris Hawkins), Amazing Radio (Shell Zenner, Charlie Ashcroft) and XS Manchester (Jim Salveson), and were the first band to play Hull Bonus Arena since it reopened following COVID restrictions.
Fever had a stellar year in 2022, supporting the likes of The Lathums and Red Rum Club, as well as sell out headline shows in Hull and Manchester. 2023 looks to kick off in the same with a run of support shows with The Clause and plenty more exciting dates which are to be announced.
