SOMEBODY’S CHILD IRISH INDIE POP SENSATIONS RELEASE NEW EP STAYING SANE

FEATURING THE SINGLES ‘CRAZY’, ‘STUBBORN’ AND NEW TRACKS ‘HARD TO TALK’ / ‘(YOU ARE MY) FRIENDS’

Dublin-based indie rock 5-piece Somebody’s Child have released their highly anticipated new EP Staying Sane

Staying Sane has been a long time coming for the Irish indie pop sensations, and features the mammoth singles ‘CRAZY’ and ‘Stubborn’ alongside new tracks ‘Hard To Talk’ and ‘(You Are My) Friends’.

The already released singles lyrically ruminated on feelings of self-isolation and frustration, with a common theme of nostalgia for the “before-times” threaded throughout. The lyrical content is often in contrast with the vibrant indie instrumentation and relaxed vocals, giving the music a dream-like sound and aesthetic.

The remaining tracks ‘Hard To Talk To’ and ‘(You Are My) Friends’ tie up the EP sonically and thematically, acknowledging how friendship has been a shining light in tough times. The colourful synths and energetic drums of ‘(You Are My) Friends’ propel the track forward with Cian’s laid-back vocal delivery culminating in a song teaming with indie-pop attitude.

Speaking about Staying Sane, Godfrey says:

“Staying Sane is my reflection on the last 18 months of my life in Ireland. It’s inspired by another side of my influences, one that hasn’t been heard yet. Music has kept me sane the last while and I hope this EP can do the same for others.”

More conceptual than anything the band have done to date, the EP is written from the perspective of a long road trip along the west coast of Ireland. The memories and friendships forged along the way have woven themselves into the surrounding landscape, tethering the music and its creation to a time and a place – Bundoran, 2020.

If Somebody’s Child’s second EP (Hope, Amongst Other Things) was the dark and sober reflection of life as a young person in today’s world, their third and final EP, Staying Sane, is a celebration of life and the relationships that a young person relies on to survive in said worl

The EP is the final part of the musical puzzle that Somebody’s Child have been putting together since their inception in late-2018, leaving the door open to what could be achieved on the highly anticipated first album.

More Information about Somebody’s Child

Cian Godfrey started Somebody’s Child in late-2018 as a means of exploring his voice as a songwriter, inhabiting and exploring a variety of musical styles and sounds. This creative interest can be traced back to when he first sat at a piano in the family apartment in Paris, aged five.

A groundbreaking voice in the Dublin music scene, Somebody’s Child has fast become one of the hottest prospects in Ireland having accumulated millions of streams and significant support from Spotify (including, most recently, the addition to the holy grail of indie playlists – ‘The Best Of The Indie List 2020’), as well as BBC Radio 1 (Jack Saunders ‘Next Wave’ artist), Radio X, Amazing Radio (A-list) and Ireland’s biggest radio station – RTÉ Radio 1.

2021 has seen Somebody’s Child music videos premiered in DORK and DIY, significant backing in Ireland from the likes of Hot Press, with further support from When The Horn Blows (Ones To Watch 2021) and CLASH.

Following support slots with Kodaline, Primal Scream and Kaiser Chiefs, festival appearances at Electric Picnic and Reading & Leeds and even a television performance on Ireland’s Late Late Show playing to over 600,000 people, the Dublin five-piece have announced a debut UK & Ireland headline tour, showing their ever-growing ambitions as one of Ireland’s hottest live acts.
