Announced for Roskilde Festival 2022
Today, Copenhagen-based artist LINN returns with the announcement of her haunting and uncompromising new single “Happiness Is Real”, which, with sudden dynamic shifts and contrasting moods, examines the division and the inner struggle between good and evil, the beautiful and ugly, and the fragile and expressive.
The single comes on the heels of LINN’s debut EP “Happy Metal” which was released in November 2020. Written, performed, produced, and mixed by LINN the EP was a consummate introduction to her borderless style showcasing playful and eclectic arrangements that take influence from alternative rock, future R&B and electronic lo-fi. Often accompanied by bizarre sound effects, field recordings, toy instruments, LINN’s songs were often accompanied by humored lyrics about her everyday struggles and situations.
The EP received broad support from various music blogs and publications, amongst others CLASH Magazine (UK), GAFFA (DK) and Nothing But Hope And Passion (DE). Lead single and title track “Happy Metal” premiered on Denmark’s biggest radio channel P4 and was in heavy rotation on Danish national radio P6 Beat for more than 6 months.
The new single sees LINN further expand on her unique lo-fi sound with looped guitars and bedroom-pop inspired vocals. “Happiness Is Real” darts unpredictably between reserved ruminations, and cacophonous distorted noise-inflected guitar and drum sections, which are manipulated by giltchy electronics. The production works sees LINN almost deconstructing the song just to build it back up in to a gentle and ethereal swaying track which whilst ominous is also comforting.
“I like to push the music to a place where it becomes less predictable. I often need my songs to sound a bit “off” to be able to really appreciate them,” LINN explains.
In May 2021, LINN embarked on a tour in Denmark together with Danish band Blood Child and the collaborative crossover live concept “Shower Me In Happy Metal”, playing shows in Copenhagen, Odense, Aarhus, Aalborg and Kolding. LINN has also played at festivals in and outside of Denmark, including SPOT Festival (DK), Left of the Dial Festival (NL) and this year has announced that she will be appearing at Roskilde Festival (DK) in June.
LINN will be releasing more new music and playing further live shows during 2022.
