WITH NEW SINGLE ‘SET YOU FREE’
ANNOUNCES NEW PROJECT FOR 2022
Kyla La Grange has returned after 5 years out of the spotlight with new single ‘Set You Free’,
‘Set You Free’ is La Grange’s first piece of material since a string of singles in 2016, and is the start of a new era for the indie pop icon.
Making waves throughout the 2010’s with the critically acclaimed albums Ashes (2012) and Cut Your Teeth (2014) the singer/songwriter was one of the defining voices of her era, acquiring fans from the likes of The Guardian, The Observer, The Independent, NME, The Line of Best Fit and countless others.
Now in 2021 after stepping out of the spotlight for half a decade, she has returned with new single ‘Set You Free’ – a gorgeous reworking of the N-Trance classic. Taking the core elements of the 90’s rave anthem and imparting her own unique style, the single is a captivating introduction to what promises to be a huge return for La Grange as her distinctive and powerful falsetto beautifully collides with stripped back piano and steadily building instrumentation.
Speaking about ‘Set You Free’, Kyla La Grange said: “‘Set You Free’ has always been my favourite rave tune. The feeling you get when you hear it pour out of the speakers and onto the dancefloor, the way the crowd reacts – there’s nothing like it. I remember watching Annie Mac finish a festival set with it one year and the whole place just went crazy – just pure elation.”
One of the themes in my new material is a hunger for escapism and magic, of never wanting to grow up, and this track just seemed to encapsulate that so perfectly. I wanted to re-work it in a way that brought out the sadness, the way that euphoria always has its flipside, in that you know you can never really feel this good forever. That as much as you don’t want the night to end, it always will, and that’s part of what makes your heart beat so hard when you’re in the middle of it all, wide-eyed and sweaty and in love with everyone around you.”
Set You Free’ is the first piece of material to be taken from a wider project from Kyla La Grange, more information will be revealed in due course.
