Now I can be as nostalgic as the next man, especially when it comes to Rock and Roll. Give me some Led Zeppelin, Bad Company or AC/DC and my head and feet are automatically transported back to a much more innocent time when ‘woke’ meant something completely different and usually involved birds singing and the morning, but I digress. I thought the days were numbered for a band to come along and just play what in essence is raw and pure Rock and Roll, but oh how wrong could I be. The 7th and new album from ‘The Answer’ called ‘Sundowner’, delivers a nostalgic burst of gunfire that even John Wayne wouldn’t be able to dodge! Vocals that invoke so many past and still undead heroes, the tracks blend history with an appreciation that hides nothing about its origins and purpose.

The long wait that has ensued since their last offering, has given this album the time and energy it needed to be fresh and loud, but also in a lot of places, spiritual. It’s not lost on me that some consider Rock and Roll a religious experience, but this album stands alone in a much vaulted genre, that time captured and keeps polished for generational lessons. The tracks are delivered and dispatched with the easiest of intentions and even though smothered in a sauce made to a specific recipe, they have added enough new ingredients to make this album, sublime and fresh tasting.

The answer for me is in the name, and if pure Rock and Roll is your thing and your baby, well, this album deserves being added to your family tree.

8/10
