Ashley Naylor, guitarist, songwriter and singer of beloved Melbourne band Even and guitarist for Paul Kelly, The Church, the Rockwiz Orchestra and others, is set to preview material from his forthcoming new solo album Soundtracks Volume 2 on Thursday May 4 at Shotkickers, 744 High Street, Thornbury.
Soundtracks Volume 2, which will be released later in the year, will be Naylor’s second volume of instrumental guitar music and his first solo release since Even’s acclaimed 2021 ARIA Top 20 Double album Reverse Light Years.
The nearly 9-minute long first track from the album, “Spaceship”, will be released May 5.
The Shotkickers show will be Naylor’s first solo show since February 2019, and the first time Naylor has played a show dedicated to his solo instrumental material.
“Many of my favourite moments on stage are when I get to focus solely on the electric guitar,” he explains. “The upcoming gig at Shotkickers on May 4 is a first for me, a show based on instrumental music with the guitar as the primary focus.”
“In 2020 I released my first instrumental album, Soundtracks Volume 1 and Volume 2 is on the way, selections from both titles will feature heavily at this show.”
“On the night I will be joined by an esteemed group of musicians to help bring these sounds to the live stage.”
“The musical door will also be open to some instrumental surprises and a couple of tracks from earlier albums ‘Four Track Mind’ and ‘High Horse’.”
Joining Naylor on the night will be Lachlan O’Kane on drums, Richard Bradbeer on bass and Wez Prictor on keys.
