Allman Betts Family Revival
Monday 1 April: Northcote Theatre, Melbourne
The Allman Betts Band is a Southern American rock band formed in 2018. The band was founded by Devon Allman and Duane Betts, both of whomare the sons of founding Allman Brothers Band members Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts, respectively.
Devon and Duane came together to continue their fathers’ musical legacy while also creating their own distinctive sound. Their debut album, “Down to the River,” was released in 2019. The band’s music is rooted in Southern rock, blues, and classic rock, paying homage to the Allman Brothers Band’s iconic sound.
The Allman Family Revival is in its seventh year of celebrating the life and music of Gregg Allman, curated by his son, Blues Music Award-winning Devon Allman. It’s a mega show… think “The Last Waltz’ but going from city to city!
This event has become known as the “Jam of the Year”, with the return of The Allman Betts Band as the house band. They will be doing a Gregg Allman-penned song set (I’m No Angel, Whipping Post, Melissa, etc.) followed by an intermission and then a Dickey Betts-authored set (Jessica, Blue Sky, Ramblin’ Man, etc.), which will rotate nightly.
Joining their Australian shows are Ally Venable and Larry McCray. Venable is a Texas blues/rock guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter who made her fiery presence known around the world since the release of her debut album at 16.
Larry McCray is an acclaimed American blues guitarist and singer celebrated for his soulful vocals, electrifying guitar skills, and his authentic approach to the blues genre. Over the past three decades of non-stop touring, he has played with blues greats such as BB King, Buddy Guy, Albert King, and John Mayall.
