UK indie royalty Bombay Bicycle Club have today revealed ‘Diving’ ft Holly Humberstone – the second track from their recently announced sixth studio album My Big Day out 20 October 2023. Enlisting indie-pop darling, rising star and long time fan Holly Humberstone, ‘Diving’ is a typically lilting, inventive and unpredictable number from a band who’ve made a habit of writing inventive and unpredictable pop music.
“Diving is a song about that summer you have when you’re 15, the memory of which conjures up such a unique feeling,” vocalist Jack Steadman explains. “You’re discovering everything for the first time and the world seems as scary and exhilarating as diving off a tall cliff into a lake.”
“Holly is the perfect fit for this song. Her music perfectly captures those feelings of early life, and her voice gives the whole song so much emotion.”
As a long term fan of the band, the relationship bloomed when Holly reached out to Bombay Bicycle Club to do some writing for her own music. Knowing Holly was already a fan of the band, they knew exactly who to ask when needing someone to accompany Jack on ‘Diving’.
The band have also released the official video clip for the new single – a nostalgic set of Wes Anderson-esque summertime scenes shot on Super 8 film.
The new track is the second taster from the band’s forthcoming sixth studio album My Big Day to be released on 20 October 2023. Alongside Holly Humberstone, the forthcoming record features an clectic host of guest vocalists that perfectly encapsulates the breadth of the band’s widespread appeal – Damon Albarn, Jay Som and Nilüfer Yanya all lend their voices across the course of the record, with a fifth special guest to be announced very soon.
