Daniel Sveinson is the vocalist, key songwriter, and one of the guitarists for Brass Camel. Brass Camel is a Canadian band that could be called progressive rock, alternative, funk, and a number of other things. Their unique sound touches on a number of genres, and their lyrical themes range from suicide to cats. Brass Camel released their debut album Brass in late 2022, and earlier this month they released their full-length follow-up, Camel.
In this interview we see singer/guitarist Daniel Sveinson joined by two other members of Brass Camel (Dylan Lammie, Aubrey Ellefson) to discuss the ins-and-outs of being on the road and writing and recording their new sophomore album, Camel. Daniel opens up about writing about the loss of family and friends to suicide in the new song “Another Day”. He also talks about recording the sound of the streets around St. Peter’s Basillica, and how those recordings were used on the record. He also talks about writing a song about a cat.
I would like to note that Daniel and Brass Camel were in the middle of a 4400km drive that takes nearly 44 hours from Vancouver to Ottawa to play a show or two. Somehow, along that excruciatingly long trip, they found time to talk with me. That work ethic along with the kindness and consideration that was shown to me is way above and beyond. Make sure to support this fine hard-working band as they pour their souls into their great art.

Hello everyone! My name is Scott Itter, but some know me as Dr. Music. I am a music journalist and photographer out of the Chicagoland area, and I have been in practice for over 20 years. I grew up in the 70’s with two big brothers that showed me all kinds of rock and roll. As I grew older I ventured out into different genres like jazz, funk, folk, and whatever else I could wrap my ears around. As I read every liner note and every Circus and Hit Parader like they were the Old and New Testament, I came to realize that I just love sound and appreciate all the people that create it.
I later became a stay-at-home dad and started honing my writing and photography skills to keep my mind from turning into mashed peas. My kids are now adults, my mind is only slightly mushy, and I am thrilled to have the honor of presenting my work to you!
