Brit Turner of Blackberry Smoke Dead at 57 Years Old From Brain Tumor

Truly a sad day in the music industry and with a heavy heart, Brit Turner, the drummer and one of the founding members of Blackberry Smoke lost his courageous battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. The Georgia Native is survived by his wife Kim and Daughter Lana.

Brit Turner was the Chief Executive Officer of The Lana Turner Foundation Inc. for the awareness of childhood cancer, promoting art, music, storytelling, and treatments. Lana was diagnosed with cancer in 2009. Currently, She has made a full recovery.

In 2020, turner was diagnosed after having a seizure on stage. Later that year, surgery was performed to remove the aggressive tumor. On November 9, 2020 Brit was discharged from the hospital, and on November 20, 2022 he was back behind the drum kit with the band. His courage was inspirational to me as a husband, father, and a fan of Blackberry Smoke.

Covering their shows over the past six years, Brit was always a pleasure to photograph as he always shared a smile with my camera. I will miss him greatly in the future.
