June 30, 2023 – Today, platinum-selling English alt rock band Nothing But Thieves has released their anticipated new studio album, Dead Club City, via RCA/Sony Music with U.S. distribution by AWAL. PRESS HERE to listen. Dead Club City, the fourth studio album from Nothing But Thieves, features the band’s current alternative radio single “Overcome,” hit single “Welcome To The DCC,” which has amassed over 18 million global streams, recent track release “Keeping You Around” and new focus track “Tomorrow Is Closed.” A decade into their career, the band has never sounded as vital, inspired and blisteringly adventurous as they do on Dead Club City – welcome to the new era of Nothing But Thieves.
With socially insightful lyrics and an adept ability to progress their sound and experiment between the diverse genres that shape them as a band, Nothing But Thieves are marking an innovative new chapter with Dead Club City. The five-piece made a statement return with “Welcome To The DCC,” the first single and opening track off the new concept album, which has now become the band’s highest charting track ever. The confident and punchy song not only signals the band’s more sonically leftfield sound, but also advertises the world of DCC, otherwise known as Dead Club City, and the songs and ideas that follow. “Overcome,” currently Top 50 at U.S. Alternative Radio and featured across SiriusXM Alt Nation, is an epic pop track that has a fragment of nostalgia yet feels captivatingly modern and uniquely Nothing But Thieves. Backed by an anthemic melody and 80s synths, “Overcome,” accumulating over 10 million global streams, builds to an uplifting and euphoric chorus that captures the mood of the album and echoes the feelings of escapism, hope, and new beginnings. It’s an unabashed, pedal-to-the-metal road trip anthem – think Don Henley’s “Boys of Summer” relocated from California to the Essex coast. Elsewhere on the new album is the spacey trip-hop ballad “Keeping You Around,” the playful and glam “City Haunts” and the stirring rock anthem “Tomorrow Is Closed,” which conveys a backdrop to the whole record with the overarching theme of wanting to escape and find somewhere new. Dead Club City closes with the epic and intriguing prog-funk track “Pop The Balloon.” Full track listing for Dead Club City below.
Throughout the 11-track collection, Nothing But Thieves showcase their city-sized, members-only club, Dead Club City. The album’s track list and overall narrative is formed by different characters and story arcs from in and around the city. Is it a shared consciousness? Another planet? The next corporate wasteland? Heaven? Or somewhere else? Using the club as a focal point, it is easy to imagine the real- world meaning behind Dead Club City. Themes such as advertisement, unity, internet culture, the music industry, ageing and politics, as well as escapism and change are highlighted by the alienation or privilege of a members only club. Recorded and self-produced by NBT guitarist Dominic Craik alongside Jonathan Gilmore, the songs on Dead Club City are vividly alive with big ideas, pop hooks, soul flourishes, hip hop beats, crunchy riffs, and lead vocalist Conor Mason’s remarkable and slinky falsetto.
