Having announced their hugely anticipated first-ever collaborative album Father And Son with lead single “Time After Time” last month, Art Garfunkel and Art Garfunkel Jr. have today revealed another track off their forthcoming full-length which is set to arrive on 8 November 2024, returning with a lush and heartfelt interpretation of timeless1930s jazz standard “Blue Moon”.
“It’s the ultimate classic from the 1940s, one of the key compositions of the Great American Songbook,” Garfunkel Jr. says about “Blue Moon” – a song that has been his and his dad’s favourite for as long as they can remember. Written in the 1930s by Broadway hit songwriters Rodgers & Hart and later immortalised by Sinatra, Elvis, and more, the lush arrangement of this brand-new recording, which also serves as the album’s opening track, leaves plenty of room for Garfunkel & Garfunkel’s incredible voices to shine – eventually culminating into an epic finale.
“It felt like a dream. It was simply quite wonderful. I love working with him,” adds NYC hit-making veteran Art Garfunkel, who launched his career with Simon & Garfunkel in the late 1950s, referring to their shared time in the studio. “I like to say my son is a better singer than I am. I mean, I’m pretty good… but he is better”.
“We were going for a real modern orchestral vibe, with lots of strings,” they say about the new project’s lush and lavish sound. In the studio, they enlisted three international greats to capture the unique father-son dynamic: Trusted hit producer Felix Gauder (Pet Shop Boys, Jimmy Somerville) was joined by top-notch Italian string arranger Davide Rossi (Coldplay, Alicia Keys) and famed UK studio wizard Ash Howes (Kylie Minogue, Ellie Goulding).
“This one is truly a father-son project, it’s all about this unique connection,” Garfunkel Jr. adds. “We recorded a dozen of our most cherished songs. I brought more of the 80s influences into the project, and my father brought more of the Great American Songbook – wonderful songs from the 1940s and so on. These two influences came together in a pretty exciting way. Overall, it’s definitely an expression of our bond”. Further album highlights include timeless songs by The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, and, of course, Cat Stevens.
