Tuesday, May 7 – This May, international punk band Gogol Bordello will kick off the West Coast leg of their Casa Gogol Tour on May 18 in San Diego with support from Casa Gogol’s latest New York discoveries; art & dance punk band Mary Shelley, hypnotic singer-songwriter Grace Bergere, Puzzled Panther and Crazy & The Brains. While in Las Vegas for Punk Rock Bowling & Music Festival, Eugene Hütz will lead guided tours of The Punk Rock Museum as well as screening Vice documentary Scream of My Blood: A Gogol Bordello Story (Executive Producer Liev Schreiber). The screenings will be followed by Q&A with Hütz and Sergey Ryabtsev, and an afterparty with DJ HÜTZ and progressive art punk band from NYC Mary Shelley. Tickets here.

On Friday, May 10, Casa Gogol Records (Rolling Stone) will release two new singles ahead of the tour kicking off Casa Gogol’s NYContinuity series (learn more from Inside Hook), where new New York bands cover the greats of iconic NYC Punk. Mary Shelley will cover The Talking Heads’ “Bourgeois de Ville/The Great Curve” produced by Eugene Hütz, Puzzled Panther to cover Sonic Youth’s “Dirty Boots” produced by Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) and Eugene Hütz, as well as Grace Bergere’s original song “A Little Blood” off her upcoming album.

Scream of My Blood is an intimate portrait of Ukrainian immigrant Eugene Hütz, chronicling the rise of his NYC punk band Gogol Bordello and his defiant return to Ukraine. The Vice doc premiered at Tribeca Film Festival last June, earning a Special Jury Mention for Best New Documentary Director Award for Nate Pommer and Eric Weinrib. The doc garnered praise like “Hütz’s story is fascinating and triumphant. Scream of My Blood’ remains essential.” (Variety). The film has also been shown at the Warsaw Film Festival (Audience Award for Documentary Feature), Centre Film Festival (Audience Award), SXSW Sydney, In-Edit International Music Documentary Film Festival and more as it continues the festival circuit – including screenings in Burlington, Vermont where Eugene’s story in the United States began.

Puzzled Panther (Kay Bon Tempo, Victoria Espinoza, Brian Chase, Eugene Hütz) at Brooklyn Bowl

Since Gogol Bordello’s genesis in the Lower East Side punk-rock scene of 1999, they’ve continued to light up audiences with an inimitable patchwork of raucous punk and Eastern European Gypsy-swing. Casa Gogol first began as a touring series curated by Eugene Hütz, focusing on bringing like-minded artists on the road with Gogol Bordello. These uncompromisingly innovative musicians have included A Tribe Called Red (now The Halluci Nation), Mariachi El Bronx, Man Man and recently Amigo the Devil amongst countless others.

Now Hütz’s imprint, Casa Gogol Records (Rolling Stone) has released an electric debut EP Puzzled Panther and powerful Gogol Bordello collaboration cover of Angelic Upstarts’ “Solidarity” with Bernard Sumner (Joy Division and New Order). Listen to Bernard Sumner’s “Right To Freedom” Mix and Gogol Bordello’s “Unity” Mix. This tribute to the punk and anti-Soviet movement will benefit injured Ukrainian soldiers through Kind Deeds, and stand in solidarity with oppressed groups worldwide. Other 2024 releases on Casa Gogol Records will include hypnotic singer-songwriter Grace Bergere, Jesus Christoph of Crazy & The Brains, Brooklyn art dance punk band Mary Shelley and beyond.

ABOUT GOGOL BORDELLO

Since 1999, International punk band Gogol Bordello, led by Ukrainian frontman Eugene Hütz, has been filling up rooms with an energy that could run a whole city. Their latest album Solidaritine is no exception, going back to their hardcore roots. A lifelong lover of the punk scene growing up in Ukraine, Hütz finally found himself where he felt he belonged, in New York’s Lower East Side in the late 90s, where he went to shows and later performed at the legendary CBGB. Crashing at friends’ apartments and playing acoustic sets in NYC Ukrainian bars, his group steadily grew to an 8 piece multicultural band, combining Eastern, Western and Latin traditions. Since then the band has lit up stages around the world alongside System of a Down, Primus, Rancid, Dropkick Murphys, dueted with Regina Spektor, and cut albums with legends Rick Rubin and Steve Albini.

Russia’s war in Ukraine is personal for Eugene & the band, who have been tirelessly advocating for Ukrainian solidarity, partnering with Nova Ukraine, ArtDopomoga, and putting together benefits with Patti Smith, The Hold Steady, Suzanne Vega, Magnetic Fields, Matisyahu and more. Hütz has also appeared in arthouse films such as Liev Schreiber’s Everything Is Illuminated with Elijah Wood, Filth and Wisdom helmed by Madonna and Vice documentary Scream of My Blood: A Gogol Bordello Story (Executive Producer Liev Schreiber).
