GRENTPEREZ TEAMS UP WITH CAVETOWN FOR ‘WHEN WE WERE YOUNGER’ + OFFICIAL VIDEO CLIP

GRENTPEREZ RELEASES ‘WHEN WE WERE YOUNGER’ FT CAVETOWN

+ NOSTALGIC NICKELODEON INSPIRED OFFICIAL VIDEO CLIP

++ JOINING REX ORANGE COUNTY AS SPECIAL GUEST IN AU & NZ

Western Sydney artist grentperez has teamed up with UK singer-songwriter Cavetown for a reimagined version of his recent EP title track ‘When We Were Younger’ ft Cavetown + a nostalgia inducing official video clip to match. The new track follows on from the announcement earlier this week that grentperez will be supporting UK indie-rock royalty Rex Orange County on his Australia & New Zealand headline from September.

Teaming up as long-time fans of each-other, the new single comes just under a week out from the first stop of the Bittersweet Daze Tour, where grentperez will be joining Cavetown as a special guest across a run of North American dates over July + August. “Cavetown and I just felt like being partners, fighting crime and saving the world, and so we joined up and recorded this edition of When We Were Younger,” grentperez explains. “What better way to reminisce on old memories than to share those memories with your friends. Cute right?”

Channeling that fuzzy feeling of waking up early on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons, the official video clip sees grentperez and Cavetown transported to a nostalgia-inducing, retro-style nickelodeon world. Tapping into the concept of nostalgia – the theme grentperez’s most recent EP of the same name is centered around – the duo have will be releasing the official video clip for the new track directed by animator Marco Pavone (animator for Disney, Netflix, MTV)  this afternoon at 2.00pm AEST

Speaking on the new track, Cavetown adds “We are so close to starting the Bittersweet Daze tour and I’m so excited to have grentperez joining us. I got to lay down a verse in this new version of ‘when we were younger’ !! Check it out i hope u enjoy it :)”

Proving again his endless versatility as an artist, grentperez released his highly anticipated EP ‘When We Were Younger’ earlier this year in June – a seven track record centered around the concept of nostalgia. Conceived as a means to get out of a songwriting rut and motivated by a desire to stave off cynicism and embrace the carefree creativity of childhood, in his own words ‘When We Were Younger’ “is a collection of music each relating to figures of the past, whether it be in love, loss, families and friendship.”

Throughout ‘When We Were Younger’, grentperez displays a director’s knack for world-building. Discrete elements throughout the tracks are as disparate as one could imagine but together everything makes sense, and different musical gestures and lyrics stimulating long-dormant memories while simultaneously providing a soundtrack for new ones. Fusing the signifiers of a wide variety of nostalgic sounds: his beloved bossa nova, yes, but also sprightly Philadelphia soul, the swelling strings of golden-era Hollywood, even the soundtracks and general vibe of 90s romcoms – the bold approach hits once you press play on the EP and the opening track busts in with a psychedelic spaghetti western fanfare. “I wanted to try to create a THX-style intro to the project,” he elaborates. “Kind of recreate the childhood thrill of booting up a VHS tape.”

With no signs of slowing down, the rising star has revealed his ‘growing up?’ international headline tour taking his high-energy live show across the UK, Europe and USA (sold out) over the rest of the year and into 2024 with more tour dates to come. Kicking off next week, grentperez will be joining Cavetown as a special guest across their Bittersweet Daze North American Tour alongside good friends  mxmtoon & Ricky Montgomery
