On October 17th, 2024, Australian rock band Jet played to a sold out crowd at the Basement East in Nashville, TN, celebrating the 20th anniversary of their album Get Born by playing it in full. While fans filtered into the venue and waited for the show to start, singing along to the pre-show tunes, the anticipation felt by all was evident.
To start the show was Super American Eagle, a rock trio from Melbourne, Australia. Their nine song set list included a mix of melodious and energetic sounds that had the crowd dancing along. Although widely unknown by many in the audience, Super American Eagle’s performance definitely captivated those present. Many people were still arriving during their set, but it was obvious that the band had their attention as soon as they entered the room.
The first half of the band’s songs were on the softer side, progressively becoming harder and edgier. Just as the crowd’s energy increased, so too did the band’s as they ramped up their playing. Guitarist Robert Harrow was especially dynamic as he kicked a leg into the air and flipped his hair.
Once they finished their final song, they thanked everyone for coming and made their way backstage to thunderous applause.

Finally, it was time for the moment everyone had been waiting for. As the lights dimmed and the members of Jet took their place onstage, the crowd went wild, especially as the opening chords to “Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is” rang out. The band began the song in a flurry of energy, jumping and running around the entirety of the small stage. Their presence was captivating and dynamic, a testament to their history as a band.
During their fourth song, Jet brought out a guest guitarist while vocalist Nic Cester picked up a tambourine. This added even more dimension to their already engaging sound. Likewise, the colorful lighting was skillfully chosen to enhance the energetic atmosphere in the room, while properly illuminating the band–though at times the smoke did make it difficult to see those at the back of the stage.
There are many things that make a concert special, but none more so than the interactions between the band and the crowd, and Jet perfectly delivered on this. Nic Cester cracked jokes between songs, and while playing, he would step right up to the edge of the stage, leaning over his guitar to get up close and personal with the crowd, who loved every minute of it. Right before playing crowd favorite, “Are You Gonna Be My Girl,” Nic Cester shouted “Nashville are you ready?” which led to the entire crowd clapping along and singing at the top of their lungs to the iconic song. Before starting another song, Cester jokingly told the crowd, “If you know this one, sing along. If you don’t, don’t fucking even worry about. Cause I know all the words,” which had everyone laughing.
Another fun moment came when bassist Mark Wilson pulled out a harmonica. During this song, he effortlessly switched between the two instruments, never missing a beat. The moment showcased his musical talents and the crowd cheered their support.
As the show went on, Jet’s energy only increased as they fed off the crowd’s energy. Their intense instrumentals combined with their non-stop movement brought the atmosphere in the venue to an all time high, especially as Nic Cester leapt off drummer Pete Marin’s kit.
After playing “Timothy,” the last song off Get Born, each band member met at the center of the stage where they bowed to the roaring crowd before waving as they left. Only Nic Cester and an acoustic guitar were left. Cester announced they still had a few more songs to play, which began with an acoustic rendition of “Shine On.”
Afterward, the rest of the band rejoined him to play two final songs, which the crowd danced and sang along to.
Jet’s performance was electrifying from start to finish, and one I’m grateful to have seen since they’re only playing three cities in the US on this tour. Jet’s show is one that you can’t miss, so if you ever have the opportunity to see it, I can’t recommend it enough.

I’ve always been the creative type, but nothing quite beats how it felt the first time I picked up a camera. Once I photographed my first concert, I knew I had found my passion. As an avid concert-goer, getting to combine my love of music with my love of photography is like a dream come true!
