The band released their debut album, ‘Light, West’ towards the end of 2020 whilst diving into their new base of Berlin and letting its deep, complicated history and landscapes influence their next move. This led to ‘Violet Drive’, their latest album released in February 2023, a deeply European record torn between the past and future and heavily affected by its surroundings. Recorded over two weeks in a studio in the Alps just outside of Zurich, the songs on ‘Violet Drive’ were built from the drums up. This off-kilter percussion defines the album, the thudding backbeat laid down providing the framework upon which its lyrics and instrumentation – flashes of blues-y guitars and woozy synths, Edmund’s deliciously deep, syrupy voice – bounce off and flesh the songs out.
Kerala Dust have honed a somewhat improvised live show throughout their career, setting the stage for a completely unique and always fluid performance. They have transcended audiences across the globe with their genre-blending and experimental nature, which has seen them play over 150 international shows and grace stages at renowned festivals and events including DGTL (Tel Aviv), Dockville (Hamburg), Lightning in a Bottle (California), Kater Blau (Berlin), Tropico (Mexico), Sonar (Barcelona) among many others.
