Koe Wetzel’s “Wetzel’s Wonderland” Slays at The Moody Center in Austin, Texas on December 27, 2024

Koe Wetzel and Krew thought Austin, TX, needed one more show before the end of 2024 when he brought his “Wetzel’s Wonderland” show to Moody Center in Austin, Texas on December 27, 2024.

Starting the show was Stephen Wilson Jr. Hailing from Southern Indiana and self-proclaimed “Death Cab for Country,” he and his band were a good choice to start the show. They have an indie country vibe. I hadn’t heard of his music before the concert, but I could see myself enjoying listening on our next road trip out west.

I was immediately drawn to the bassist as he looked to be straight out of Yellowstone with his large cowboy hat, harmonica, and swagger on stage looking like Luke Grimes. Later, he would bring out his stand-up base and play a few tunes. Wilson’s steel guitar player also had a quirky and fun swagger.

Though their music wasn’t rock and roll in your face, I enjoyed it and checked it out on Spotify on the way home. I left a new fan and was glad, as I need new music to obsess over in 2025!

After Stephen Wilson Jr and the band played their last song on their set, the next to grace the Moody Center stage was Morgan Wade.

Morgan Wade is another one of my absolute favorite artists. I was lucky enough to photograph her at the Historic Scoot Inn about two years ago. She played two amazing shows, and I watched both of them!

Morgan killed it. She commands the stage; her small but mighty voice makes you stop whatever you’re doing and pay attention to the words she’s singing. She uses the whole stage to connect to every audience member. Her songs are raw and full of emotion. I connect with her music and am such a big fan.

The lighting, setlist, stage presence, band, and everything else were on point Friday night. Morgan and her band put on one of the best concerts. Although I was ready for Koe to take the stage, I wanted more Morgan! I could watch her show for three hours and still want 3 more hours! But it was time for Koe and the convicts to take the stage.

It was time for the man, the myth, the legend, Koe Wetzel, to take the stage. 2024 could arguably be his best year yet in the music industry. This year, he released his sixth studio record, played a ton of festivals, launched another tour, including a European leg, and is coming off two straight weeks with the # 1 country song—which happens to be his first # 1 song on country radio. 2024 was kind to Koe.

As if that wasn’t enough, he released a few more Christmas tunes and added two dates in Texas at the end of December to celebrate “Wetzel’s Winter Wonderland.” If you’ve ever been to a Koe show, you know what you’re getting into. Rowdy fans. Fan Girls. Fan Guys. Koe Wannabe’s. Future Ex Wives. Did I mention Rowdy fans? There is always something in the air at a Koe show. I.LOVE.IT

Friday night was no different. The band came out punching with their song, “Twister.” I love the pyro in this song; it hits perfectly and sets the rowdiness. Koe and the Konvicts want the fans to have the best time at the show, and they come out swinging.

With the energy from the band, you can tell they are having the best time on stage. The audience feeds off their energy, and you have this insane experience that you can only experience at a Koe show. The set list is stacked with songs from old favorites like “Love,” “Austin,” “Fuss n Fight,” and “Ragweed,” to songs off the new record like “Casamigos,” “9 Lives,” “High Road,” and everything in between. Again, I’ve seen them 5 times this year, and they have subbed a couple of songs in and out at the shows. They also added holiday songs like “Run Run Rudolph” and “Merry Christmas Baby” off the new Christmas record. The set was decked out like it was your living room with stockings, presents, and a large and in-charge Christmas tree.

The show was the best show to end my 2024 concert year. I always enjoy attending a Koe show and have enjoyed watching the band work their ass off for all the success they have achieved. Koe has hinted at another album and tour in 2025. Just know I’ll be first in line to buy those Texas tickets. Cheers!

This was my 5th and final show of 2024 to see Koe Live. Yes, he’s my favorite artist, and I saw all but one show in which he played in Texas in 2024.
