The heat and the threat of rain didn’t deter concertgoers from heading out to The MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheater at The Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa, Florida, on May 31, 2026, to see The Black Crowes, Whiskey Meyers, and Southall. Inside the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheater, it was hot with all the concrete construction, about 90 degrees at the time of the show. The concert wasn’t sold out, but there were plenty of folks in the seats.
The Oklahoma country rock band Southall started out the evening as the audience was getting settled into their seats. Their set was short, only six songs long, but the crowd clapped and approved of the band’s effort.

Whiskey Myers was next on the bill with a start time of 7:30 pm. They played a 14-song set which lasted an hour and fifteen minutes. It was clear to see that a large portion of the audience had bought a ticket just to see this Billboard #1 recording artist. The set started with “Midnight Woman” off their 2025 album Whomp Whack Thunder. They also played “Time Bomb,” “Tailspin,” and “Icarus” from the album. The energy that culminated from their performance was going to be hard to match, much less beat. Whiskey Myers lived up to their billing of being a fun rocking country band with blues influences.
The band’s performance had the amphitheater crowd on the edge of their seats. Cody Cannon was all over the stage with great charisma and stage presence. He was entertaining and a great frontman to watch.

The Black Crowes were scheduled to go on at 9:15 pm and were pretty much on time. The set started with “Profane Prophecy’ off their latest album, A Pound of Feathers, which was released March 13, 2026. All was going fine, and the band was settling in, but between song #9 “Soul Singing,” and song #10, “She Talks to Angels,” the band’s mascot appeared on the rear-projection screen clad as Uncle Sam in red, white, and blue. This is the same image that appeared on the t-shirt on Chris Robinson’s chest. Some patriotic fans started chanting USA, USA. Well, that didn’t sit well with Mr. Robinson, and he starkly replied, “Thanks for the geography lesson.” Things got dark from there as he told the audience they were ignorant and they had nothing to be proud of, which brought a cascade of boos as half the crowd headed for the exits.
If they didn’t expect a reaction from the imagery, then why post it? It almost feels like it was a set-up. I am not surprised that fans walked out. People purchase tickets because they love the music of a particular artist and want to be entertained and have a good time. They don’t expect an ideological lecture for their hard-earned money.
