Whether he was co-hosting Thee Rock N’ Roll Residency jam night in Nashville or playing as part of Ace Frehley’s band, or the Gene Simmons Band, or onstage at The Grand Ole Opry, or on stage with Accept, one of the most legendary metal bands of all-time, Philip Shouse has surrounded himself with the most iconic names in the industry. He has been one of the most sought-after session musicians and a go-to “hired gun” guy for decades, and now he is getting ready to show the world who he is as a solo artist.
In this interview, Phil talks about his very first album as a solo artist. He also tells us about his journey to sobriety, what it was like to play in Ace Frehley’s band as well as Gene Simmons band, and what’s coming next for Accept. Phil also talks about finding music as a kid, touring, and his investment in a non-alcoholic beer company called Rock N’ Röll Beer!
The new EP is called Side 1, and it comes out on February 27, 2026 on Wild Kingdom Records.

Hello everyone! My name is Scott Itter, but some know me as Dr. Music. I am a music journalist and photographer out of the Chicagoland area, and I have been in practice for over 20 years. I grew up in the 70’s with two big brothers that showed me all kinds of rock and roll. As I grew older I ventured out into different genres like jazz, funk, folk, and whatever else I could wrap my ears around. As I read every liner note and every Circus and Hit Parader like they were the Old and New Testament, I came to realize that I just love sound and appreciate all the people that create it.
I later became a stay-at-home dad and started honing my writing and photography skills to keep my mind from turning into mashed peas. My kids are now adults, my mind is only slightly mushy, and I am thrilled to have the honor of presenting my work to you!
