Friday night January 15, 2021 started out rainy and dreary. Inside The Alley in Sanford, Florida the air was crisp and on stage rocking was Rockit Fly, who took the stage at 8:30 pm. All Music Magazine has had this Orlando 80’s cover band on its wish list for months and this was the night. Mark Horan of MarkHoran.Pictures LLC was sent to this sleepy town just northeast of Orlando, Florida to cover the event. The Alley just keeps presenting the best music talent in the Orlando area.
Rockit Fly has been rocking Orlando’s crowds with 80’s music for over ten years. Front man and lead singer Pedro Espada is the sole founding member in the band that has had a bunch of different lineups over the years. Pedro has incredible range vocally and effortlessly covers Journey without straining even a bit. Almost as if Steve Perry was on stage during their shows. Lead guitar player Sterling McKeand masterfully mimics the licks of every cover song in their arsenal and the rhythm section of Brad Lepp and Emmett Hart are as stead as they come and put on a good show to boot!
The band started the first set with the Poison cover “Nothin’ but a Good Time” and as the first lyric of the song says, “Well I gotta tell you something; We ain’t leaving here until you know what song we’re gonna have; Make sure you guys have nothing but a good fuckin’ time; Get on and rock it!” That set the stage for the rest of the evening as the audience got up to dance. I can say most in attendance this night were probably reminiscing about a high school dance from the 1980’s as the music transcends. The first set contained 11 covers, and even a slow dance number “Faithfully Yours” a Journey cover to complete the 80’s gymnasium transition for the crowd.
Rockit Fly is an exceptional group of musicians that play cover songs with precision. The band has just released their first original single and video “Shakin’ Like a Leaf” I am excited to see more from this talented group in the near future!
