Scott Holt is the lead singer and a guitarist for classic rock legends Foghat. His career has been soaked in rock and blues, having joined Buddy Guy’s band at 20 years old after being personally invited by the Blues icon. Scott stayed by Buddy’s side for a decade, recording the Grammy-winning album Slippin’ In. He did appearances on both TV and film, and played with dozens of the greatest Blues artists. Scott has also had a solo career, recording 7 albums with guests like Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell of Jimi Hendrix’s band, as well as having Hendrix producer Eddie Kramer as a producer on his Dark Of The Night record. All of Scott’s spirit and experience can now be heard in a brand new Foghat record!! The band is set to release a 3-disc vinyl package called Live & Loud Across The U.S.A. on Foghat Records on October 30, 2026.
In this interview, Scott discusses moving to Chicago and joining Buddy Guy’s band at the age of 20. He also talks about bringing that experience into his time as a singer and guitarist for Foghat. He explains what it takes to get that Foghat tone, what it’s like to record and perform things “old school,” and some of the main reasons why Roger Earl and Foghat have endured for more than five decades. Scott and Foghat are currently out on the Twang & Bang Tour and they are showing no signs of stopping! Hello everyone! My name is Scott Itter, but some know me as Dr. Music. I am a music journalist and photographer out of the Chicagoland area, and I have been in practice for over 20 years. I grew up in the 70’s with two big brothers that showed me all kinds of rock and roll. As I grew older I ventured out into different genres like jazz, funk, folk, and whatever else I could wrap my ears around. As I read every liner note and every Circus and Hit Parader like they were the Old and New Testament, I came to realize that I just love sound and appreciate all the people that create it.
I later became a stay-at-home dad and started honing my writing and photography skills to keep my mind from turning into mashed peas. My kids are now adults, my mind is only slightly mushy, and I am thrilled to have the honor of presenting my work to you!
