Sixpence None the Richer Receives Love in Nashville, Tennessee at Exit/In on October 27th, 2024

The intimate room at Exit/In was already buzzing 30 minutes before showtime, packed with eager fans anticipating Sixpence None the Richer’s return to Nashville. By the time opener Anna Vaus took the stage, the space was filled to the brim—a rare treat for any opening act and a perfect opportunity for Vaus to make a powerful impression.

Vaus did just that, captivating the crowd from the first notes of her cover of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears, instantly engaging the audience to sing along. With her refreshing sound and rich, clear voice, Vaus proved she’s a name to know. Her take on “Dreams” and “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac were highlights, with Vaus inviting a singalong during the latter. But it was during her original songs that the audience truly leaned in. “Trace of You”, her upcoming single, left an especially lasting mark, and it’s easy to see why her music is something listeners will want to dive into.

If you haven’t discovered Anna Vaus yet, now’s the time to change that. Recommended songs include “Happy Trails”, “Wild Honey”, and “Trace of You” (releasing November 1st).

With the excitement of a sold-out crowd, Sixpence None the Richer took the stage at Exit/In, bringing with them not only their original lineup (Dale Baker, Justin Cary, Leigh Nash, and Matt Slocum) but also the talent of Steve Hindalong from The Choir. It was a night of nostalgia and renewal as the band seamlessly blended fan favorites with fresh tracks from their new EP, “Rosemary Hill”.

Leigh Nash’s voice floated through the room, angelic and ethereal as ever, capturing the audience with her timeless presence. There’s something magnetic about Nash—when she sings, you’re transported, pulled into the memories each song revives. Fans shared in the joy of their return, with one enthusiast shouting to Nash, “You were my high school crush!”—a sentiment many surely shared. Another fan was overheard saying they had been waiting decades to see the band live.

Truly, we’re lucky to have Sixpence touring once again, offering not only beloved classics but also the gift of new music. Their latest EP, Rosemary Hill, featured prominently in the setlist, with standout performances of “We Are Love”, “Julia”, and  “Thread the Needle”. Hearing these songs live is a testament to the band’s evolution and deepening artistry, proving they are far from simply reliving the past.

For one of the evening’s most poignant moments, Nash invited guest vocalists Ruby Amanfu and Sam Ashworth to join her on “The Tide”. The song carries a sense of both surrender and resilience and is hauntingly beautiful.

Later in the set, Nash brought Anna Vaus, the night’s opener, back on stage to join her for “Julia”. Nash introduced the song by mentioning how Vaus reminds her of her best friend, a heartfelt touch that underscored the warmth and connection radiating from the stage all evening.

Of course, no Sixpence concert would be complete without “Kiss Me”, a song that brought the room to a euphoric crescendo. There’s a unique comfort and nostalgia that songs from our younger years provide, and revisiting them with Sixpence None the Richer was a true comfort in a chaotic world.

Before closing the night, Nash introduced “We Are Love”, sharing a heartfelt message with the crowd: “Just love everyone. That is much better.” It was a moving reminder, encapsulating the spirit of camaraderie and togetherness that filled the evening.

As the band closed with “Breathe Your Name”, it was clear that Sixpence None the Richer isn’t merely a memory but a gift we are lucky to experience anew. This setlist was a journey, touching on their past, present, and the hope of future music.
