THE AMAZONS BRING THE ROCK TO MANCHESTER ACADEMY UK, 7TH OCTOBER 2022

There Is A Clear Chemistry Amongst The Band, Which Is Shown In The Closing Song Of The Initial Set, “Junk Food Forever”.

Heading to Manchester Academy, Billy Seagrave is eager to catch up with the latest Offering from The Amazon’s who will be showcasing their latest album to a sell out crowd.

The Amazons take to Manchester Academy to showcase the release of their third studio album “How Will I Know If Heaven Will Find Me”, that has received critical acclaim.

The Deep Blue are four piece all female band, making tunes of the indie-alternative-folk persuasion. Imagine Fleetwood Mac meets Phoebe Bridgers with three-part harmony singing on top. Gritty guitar sounds whipped with rich rolling vocals and sprinkled with an indie drumbeat.

The band have just released their second single “He Said She Said”! It’s a deceptive song. The subject matter is serious but it’s an upbeat, uplifting sound. Their set was well received as the crowd constantly filled the venue.

The Amazons are a British rock band from Reading, Berkshire, formed in 2014. Consisting of band members, Matt Thomson – vocals, guitar, Chris Alderton – guitar, Elliot Briggs – bass, Joe Emmett – drums. When the band walked on stage front man Matt Thomson screamed ‘Manchester’ to cheers from the crowd. They opened with “How will I Know”, the first track from their latest offering, and judging by the crowd’s participation, its already a firm favourite with the crowd.

“In My Mind” takes an unexpected but welcome heavier step up, while fan favourite “25” is a blistering sub five-minute cut that will burrow deep into your brain. The breezy, youthful charms of the group are evident throughout, particularly so on “Ultraviolet” which exudes sheer energy and sees The Amazons enter a rip-roaring voyage of exploration.

“Northern Star”, has the venue lit up with the light from the mass of mobile phones held aloft, another offering from the latest album, that is already another crowd singalong. Great praise indeed for an album that is literally only a few weeks on the scene. “Doubt it”, is a firm favourite and the band slip in a delightful acoustic version of “Night driving”. This goes to underline the musicianship developed by the band over the last few years, not a band to turn down an opportunity, a rather splendid, cover version of Manchester’s, pioneering icons Joy Division’s “Love will tear us apart”, really does have the crowd hanging on every word.

There is a clear chemistry amongst the band, which is shown in the closing song of the initial set, “Junk food forever”.

The encore throws in “Bloodrush”, once again from the latest album, it adds a buzz and is infectious, this will be a grower in times to come.

Last up is the Powerhouse “Black Magic”, what a way to close out a 19 song setlist. As the band keep on building traction and the fans are swelling the venues, I look forward to seeing the band in their natural habitat, playing live.
