The Enmore Theatre in Sydney is one of Australia’s grand old venues an icon of Australia’s music history and a fitting place for The Saints new incantation to perform.
Supported by legendary Australian Musician Kim Salmon, the man who invented the term grunge, the night started out as it would end, pulling no punches.
Kim Salmon and his trio of surrealists played an eclectic and electric set which reminded all of just how far ahead of his time his experimental rock was and how it seems of the time now, ageless in every sense.
It would be easy to write The Saints 73 – 78 off as a bunch of old guys singing songs of youthful rage, but it was way more than this and it was way more than a walk down memory lane…IT WAS POWERFUL.
Made up of an indy rock supergroup you had original members of The Saints Ed Kuepper on Guitar, Ivor Hay on Drums, Seattle grunge legend and lead singer of Mudhoney, Mark Arm on Vocals, original Bad Seed Mick Harvey and Peter Oxley a Sunnyboy on bass.
They let rip from the first note with “This Perfect Day”, “Orstralia” and “No Time”…then worked their way through the songs that everyone came to see with “Misunderstood”, “Stranded” and “Know Your Product” producing an amazing combo to close out the pre-encore set, returning to close the night out with “Nights in Venice.”
With plans to take this show to the USA and Europe in 2025, it will be a great opportunity to see the band who invented punk live in person. Of course, we are hoping this will be released sometime in the near future as a live recording, on vinyl would be good too.
