Sounds Of The City
Castlefield Bowl, Manchester, UK 24-09-2021
With Manchester’s “Sounds In The City” well under way tonight was the night for “The Streets” to headline the stage at Castlefield Bowl, Manchester.
Castlefield Bowl not far from the City Centre is just the perfect place to hold these series of gigs. A short walk from Deansgate Station down old cobble stoned side streets and trendy bars and restaurants. Over canals full of impressive narrow house boats. It’s a lovely walk straight into the venue, an amphitheatre that impress’s you upon your arrival.
First up on stage was “The Skinner Brothers” a band who are making big noises in the music scene at the moment having just been announced as main support on Kasabian’s U.K. tour. These four lads from London know how to please their fans with their music and it’s hard to take in that they only formed in 2018. Their mix of Rock, Hip-Hop and Jazz makes for a captivating listen and with Zachary Skinner as lead they have a frontman with a stage presence why beyond his years. “The Skinner Brothers “ are a band going places and fast. Watch this space !
Next up on Stage were Manchester’s very own “Children Of Zeus” a soul project from artists Konny Kon and Tyler Daley. These two guys have a very unique soulful Rap/Hip-Hop sound. Yeah it’s rap but rap with a lot of soul and it sounds nice. With Konny’s rap and Tyler’s beautiful soul voice “Children Of Zeus” blend together perfectly. A real treat of a set.
Before long the time had come for Mike Skinner to lead his band “The Streets” on stage to what was a fantastic reception from The Castlefield Bowl crowd. “The Streets” produced one of the most iconic British albums of the last 20 years, Original Pirate Material, The Streets are amazing; their music is timeless in the way it reflects growing up in Britain and British culture. Mike Skinner’s Lyrics are clever, witty and cutting all at the same time and his unique style and deliverance is always on the money. His way of fusing dance music, rap beats, and UK garage rhythms, whilst sampling UK funky drum and base is still as powerful as ever.. Mike Skinner interacts with his fans in a way that is something to behold, With that and now the sun has set and Mike Skinner is playing conductor to a crowd of thousands I have to say it was emotional, the release of being able to be out amongst people and live music, the crowd were in raptures and The Streets were just perfect.
