Get Downtown! Those are the words Members of the Breakfast Optimist Club of St.Petersburg, FLorida, encourage as adults in the area plan what to do after work on the first Friday of each month. “Get Downtown” is a monthly get-together on a roped-off block in downtown St. Petersburg that helps people meet up with friends and helps the Optimist Club raise funds for important projects. It has been the Club’s most successful fundraiser for eight years running. The free event includes live music, refreshments for sale and local restaurants and merchants on hand to serve the needs of approximately 3,000 people who attend the evening of entertainment each month. A band, usually jazz, begins its first set around 6 p.m. Our attendees have a fun time as they enjoy a free concert in a unique, convenient and safe environment.
