WORDS AND IMAGES BILLY SEAGRAVE

All Music Magazine UK’s Billy Seagrave headed to a sold-out O2 Manchester Ritz to see a band that has been making a real name for themselves on the live music scene, as I joined the crowds for what promises to be an awesome powerhouse of live performance.

Wargasm, the British electronic rock duo, delivered a stunning performance at the O2 Ritz in Manchester on 13 December 2023, as part of their Venom tour. The band, consisting of Sam Matlock and Milkie Way, showcased their fusion of electro-punk, digital hardcore, nu-metal, and post-hardcore genres, with songs from their debut album “Venom”, as well as some of their earlier singles.

With support from The Dropout Kings and Harpy.

The venue is near full as the first support act takes to the stage. Harpy, an indie rock band from London, has been praised for their catchy melodies, witty lyrics, and charismatic frontwoman Cara Hart prowls the stage like a lioness. The band gave a stellar performance; their set was energetic and engaging. It’s an eclectic mix of goth pop, industrial, Nu Metal, and alternative music into their sound. They have grown a loyal fan base, many of them coming out to support them tonight, a band to watch out for.

Next up was The Dropout Kings, a rap-infused rock band from Phoenix, Arizona. The Dropout Kings are high energy and explosive from the start, keeping you on your toes throughout. Engaging and interactive with the audience was paramount within their performance. The set featured a variety of songs, such as “Bad Day,” “Something Awful,” “Hit Like This,” and “Hey Uh.” The crowd really warmed to them, and I am hoping it’s not too long before we see them again.

The show started with a bang as Wargasm opened with “Venom,” which got the crowd pumped up with its catchy chorus and explosive sound effects. The band then followed up with other songs from their album, such as “Rage All Over,” “Fukstar,” “Pyro Pyro,” “Modern Love,” “Sonic Dog Tag,” and “Bang Your Head.” The band’s stage presence was impressive as they interacted with the crowd through gestures, jokes. The band’s sound is diverse and dynamic as they mixed heavy guitar riffs, bass lines, drums, keyboards, and vocals, creating a unique and powerful soundscape. The band’s vocals were also strong as they switched from melodic singing to aggressive screaming, which was lapped up by a very attentive and responsive fan base.

The show ended with a blast as Wargasm played an encore of “D.R.I.L.D.O” and the superb “Spit,” summing up the band’s attitude and style, with its catchy hook and venomous sound. The crowd went wild as they sang along and moshed to the song, showing their appreciation and support for the band.

Overall, Wargasm’s concert was an amazing experience that showcased the band’s talent and creativity. The band proved that they are one of the most exciting and original acts in the alternative music scene and that they delivered a thrilling and explosive live show. Wargasm is a band to watch out for, as they are sure to make more waves in the future
