Following the huge success of the BBC Radio 6 Music Festival’s Indie Forever night at Manchester’s Band on The Wall, the station presents a brand-new Indie Forever club night at Bristol Thekla on Friday 19th April.
The stacked line-up is headed up by IDLES who will perform a very special DJ set. Having just released their critically acclaimed fifth album ‘TANGK’ last month via Partisan Records, the band are currently on a massive world tour and will be hitting the UK in November for a major run of dates which includes two headline shows at London’s Alexandra Palace. Extending an explosive run of unerringly stirring albums, ‘TANGK’ is IDLES’ most ambitious and striking record yet and it follows their 2021 album ‘CRAWLER’ which led to their first two GRAMMY Award nominations.
Expect nothing but upbeat indie classics and bangers from the legendary Steve Lamacq. In a career which has included stints at the New Musical Express, Radio 1 and his current home, 6 Music, he has gained a reputation for championing new bands to success, while interviewing some of alt-rock’s biggest names.
Other guest DJs performing on the night will be Welsh punk quintet, Panic Shack and 6 Music presenter Nathan Shepherd. Armed with brash, witty lyrics and killer hooks, Panic Shack crashed through the UK music scene with a tidal wave of ear-crunching noise. Immediately building up a reputation for their raw, unapologetic live shows and off-kilter songs, the band prove that DIY does it better. Nathan Shepherd is known for the viral music mash-ups he produced during lockdown under his band name, Good Future. Nathan also hosts the Indie Forever programme on 6 Music every Friday night, 9pm-11pm.
Speaking on the new show, Nathan says: “This will be my second time in Bristol after playing a gig at the crofters rights at the end of 2023 and I can’t wait to get back to the city to enjoy its diversity both culturally and musically; something that my show, Indie Forever, on 6 Music champions. Indie Forever is a show for lovers of indie classics and a chance to highlight the new artists breaking through. I’ve been a huge fan of IDLES for some time, so to be able to DJ alongside them in such a unique venue and in such a wonderfully vibrant place like their hometown Bristol, is truly an honour and I can’t wait to shake my tiny tooshie like a don’t give a…!”
Get ready for a night packed with some of the biggest tracks and future hits, celebrating the best of indie’s independent and alternative music scene. Tickets go on sale Friday 15th March at 10am and will be available from www.gigsandtours.com / www.ticketmaster.co.uk
