Abbie McCarthy’s Good Karma Club has announced a new show at London The Lexington this May, showcasing Freak Slug, Tallulah Argue and Imogen and the Knife. Tickets are on sale now from gigsandtours.com.Award winning TV/Radio presenter & DJ Abbie McCarthy created The Good Karma Club in January 2016 as a hub for new music fans, where the sole purpose of the evening is to celebrate new sounds and emerging musicians. Eight years on, the showcase has provided an early platform for artists such as Easy Life, Mae Muller, Tom Grennan, Cian Ducrot, Olivia Dean and many more.
Previously having taken place at various UK venues and most recently London’s Hoxton Colours, Abbie has also taken The Good Karma Club internationally over the years, with showcases at SXSW in Austin, Texas and online collaboration with US tastemaker night, School Night.
One of Manchester’s most talked about new indie artists, Freak Slug – real name Xenya Genovese – is an artist, producer and songwriter bringing confidence to her audience in a playful and energetic way, reminding us never to apologise for how great we are, or for those who never believed in us. Her writing style is unapologetic, fearless, and brimming with blazing honesty, as she seeks to empower women and help others discover their unique selves. With her 4 piece live band Freak Slug has now played The Great Escape, Blue Dot and Greenman festivals and supported Dope Lemon, Brad Stank and Yumi Zouma. She is now regularly selling out UK headline shows.
Toronto born singer songwriter Tallulah Argue is inspired by the greats of Country, Alternative music and grungy Americana. Her witty and narrative-driven lyrics are symbiotic with a sultry, luxurious aesthetic and voice that rings with nostalgia. On landing in London earlier this year to study and live, she conceptualised the musical tapestry entitled ‘The Things I Wish I Did To Seduce You’. The performance intimately explores the eternal themes of girlhood during her teenage years, along with her revelations that follow as she stumbles into the soulfulness of womanhood.
Joining the dots along a jagged line of influences from Kate Bush, Nick Cave, Fiona Apple, Rufus Wainwright and more, Imogen and the Knife crafts a unique world that glints with intrigue in each new track-from rhythmic swells and brooding orchestral arrangements to the grounded haunting trademark of her piano and vocal performance. With vocal performances of depth, vulnerability and control, poignant song writing is brought to life with moments of quiet reflection and fresh, full-bodied instrumentals.
