Andy Shauf the Saskatchewan-born, Toronto-based singer-songwriter has released his new long player, “Norm” The album follows his acclaimed 2020 release ‘The Neon Skyline’

Being a person who is not very familiar with any of Andy Shauf’s previous works I wasn’t sure what to expect when I hit play on the new release

“Norm is the central character for the whole record” a protagonist who embodies the record’s blurring of light and shade. In Andy’s own words “The character of Norm is introduced in a really nice way,” he says. “But the closer you pay attention to the record, the more you’re going to realize that it’s sinister.”

Starting with the track “Wasted on You” which sets the pace for the whole record,

The album is full of Lilting piano, gentle strumming of guitars, stripped back with a folky low fi feel, there are lots of lush, layered harmonies, Atmospheric almost whimsical and melancholy with minimalist drums and bass with various wind instruments allowing Andy to delicately and gently tells his stories.

Andy Shauf is a true storyteller, weaving meandering tales that draw you in, Shauf’s music “Norm” charming and beguiling with a musical imagination that makes his stories truly spellbinding.
