“The Whole Record Is Sunshine, Full Of Melody And Singalong Choruses”

Lightning Seeds/ Ian Broudie are most likely known by the masses for penning the England football anthem 3 Lions and even though that is a great anthem and sounds amazing being sung on the terraces, it’s not even a minuscule reflection on the true talent for songwriting that Ian Broudie has or the true talent the Lightening Seeds have for making records, Ian Broudie, in my opinion, is one of the UK’s best songwriters over the last decades, his ability to write the purest Liverpool Indie Pop is on par with any other band or writer you would care to mention, and that includes bands like The Beatles, The La’s and so on, yes that’s a big call, but if you don’t believe me, do yourselves a favour and take the time to listen to some Lightening Seeds records, so it was with great pleasure and excitement to be sent the new Lightening Seeds long player “See You In The Stars” to review.

So the lightning Seeds are  English indie pop band formed in Liverpool in 1989 by Ian Broudie (vocals, guitar, producer), formerly of the bands Big in Japan, Care, and Original Mirrors.  Originally a studio-based solo project for Broudie, the Lightning Seeds expanded into a touring band following Jollification (1994). The group experienced commercial success throughout the 1990s.

So, it’s time to relax with a beer a pair of headphones and put the new record on.

The Strumming of the guitar and the familiar vocal lilt of Ian Broudie starts the record and it is like I’ve just put on a favourite jumper, warm, comfortable and reassuring. Feeling a little more stripped back and sparse than other releases, it lets the lyric resonate with the listener.

This record is full of perfect indie tones, layered harmonies and heartfelt lyrics, it’s 60’s garage pop, when 60’s garage pop was cool, “Emily Smiles” is just a brilliant 3 and ½ minutes of perfection, written with Terry Hall from The Specials, I dare you not to want to shuffle and dance, I was Northern Soul dancing across my front room, which was hard as it is carpet.

The whole record is sunshine, full of melody and singalong choruses, totally uplifting and feels honest, Ian Broudie has a way of making you feel that he is sitting next to you and singing in your ear.

In a press release that was sent with the album apparently, Ian Broudie confessed to feeling anxious about his latest album, well my mate you have nothing to feel anxious about, this record is everything that was expected and more, in fact as they say in your hometown its just BOSS

See You in The Stars has been thirteen years in the making but is worth waiting for, its positive, honest and full of a heart laid bare moments, I absolutely loved this record,

9/10
