Chappaqua Wrestling – Plus Ultra – Out 14th April
So i got to sit down and listen with new EMI signing Chappaqua Wrestling’s debut long player “Plus Ultra” a band that was formed in Manchester in 2017 and is now based in Brighton, they have been making a name for themselves with a string of very well-received singles and I was looking forward to seeing what the talk was all about.
Chappaqua Wrestling is made up of songwriters Jake Mac and Charlie Woods Jude Lilly on Bass, John Paul Townsend on Drums and Alice on the keyboard.
The Album starts with “Full Round Table” and its bells-of-doom-sounding intro before it slips into indie guitar riffs and synths! And the stage is set.
“Plus Ultra” is a very clean and polished record with big driving guitars and chorus to match, the dual vocals of Charlie Woods and Jake Mac work perfectly together and are a real feature for me. The lyrics are political and insightful in the right measures, the band has something to say, and it’s all wrapped up in a nod to show gazing bands such as “My Bloody Valentine” and “Slowdive”
There is a real confidence about the album which gives you the feeling there is a lot more to come from these lads and the band’s journey has only just begun
So, if you’re looking for a new guitar band to breathe life into your indie record collection, Chappaqua Wrestling could just be the band for you.

Born in Manchester, lived in Australia for 22 years where i was heavily involved in the Australian Music Industry, firstly in bands (Singer) and then managing bands (all original), I moved back to the UK, Wales specifically 10 years ago and married my childhood sweetheart and life is good.
