I am not very familiar with GOV’T MULE (pronounced Government Mule), all I know they are an American Southern rock jam band. After a little research, I now know they were formed in 1994 as a side project of the Allman Brothers Band by guitarist Warren Haynes and bassist Allen Woody. They released their self-titled debut album, “Gov’t Mule”, in 1995, followed by several more studio albums and live recordings. The band’s line-up has changed over the years, with Haynes and drummer Matt Abts remaining the only consistent members. They intended to create a side project that could explore different musical genres while injecting their signature sound.

On Peace…Like A River Gov’t Mule take it back and embrace their 70’s roots and produce an album that is steeped in their classic rock influences and it works on every level, Like a lot of albums that have been written during and released after the pandemic, it is lyrically full of self-reflection both on a personal and spiritual level  The record is characterized by Haynes’ soulful 70’s guitar playing and powerful blues vocals, there is also guest appearance’s from Ivan NevilleRuthie Foster, and Billy  Bob Thornton

Peace… Like A River touches on Jazz funk, Country even a bit of 60’s guitar pop but it is predominantly a great blues rock album full of concise songwriting, wailing guitars, dynamic percussion and their signature instrumental journeys that never seem overplayed or too long

Gov’t Mule has become one of the most respected and renowned blues, rock, and jam bands in the music industry, winning fans all over the world with their music and this record just reinforces that 100%
