Five years ago Maisie Peters started turning up on indie playlists via Spotify with her debut EP Dressed Too Nice for a Jacket Rapidly gaining a loyal fanbase with her ability to speak directly to her Generation Z following.

Two years later, Peters returned with her sophomore record, The Good Witch. Release on Ed Sheeran’s label Gingerbread Man Records, which she signed to following a split from Atlantic Records in 2021.

And Peters is flourishing. “The Good Witch” is full of dance beats, samples, pop synths and folk-tinged melodies, it feels raw and some tracks are stripped back before they burst into big fat choruses with layered vocals, Peters does experiment more with production, and her overall sound on this record.

The Good Witch is full of self-reflection and dealing with life in her 20s  Songs about, losing herself in relationships, hurting, heartbreak, and break-ups, but its not full of cliches but delivered with an honesty that’s quite refreshing, the lyrics are witty and sharp and almost catch you off guard with their incisiveness

The whole album shimmers, it is wonderfully written and produced beautifully. The Good Witch will cement Masie Peters into the indie-pop scene even further. This album that is a captivating listen.
