WORDS HARRY K
TV Pins‘ debut album Aircutter presents an impressive and eclectic mix of styles, fusing elements of West Coast Americana, 60s psychedelia, British new wave, and power pop. The album showcases the band’s ability to craft songs that are at once nostalgic and fresh, while delivering a sound that feels both expansive and intimate.
Tracks like “Daisy Saturday Night,” a pop-infused anthem that has already gained radio attention, reveal TV Pins’ knack for catchy hooks and an upbeat, danceable vibe. Lead guitarist Duncan O’Neill describes the track as a celebration of carefree weekend nights, perfectly capturing the band’s energetic festival-ready sound. The title track, “Aircutter,” leans into the band’s love for an 80s-inspired, big orchestral sound with lush synths and powerful guitar solos, making it a standout for its ambition.
In contrast, songs like “Shining Light” and “Tonight” slow things down, offering a more introspective, acoustic feel, with “Shining Light” drawing comparisons to folk influences. These tracks highlight the band’s vocal harmonies and their ability to switch between moods with ease. “Wishing Pool” adds a funkier edge to the album, while “Last Rites” brings a dark, narrative-driven punch under a deceptively light melody, showcasing the band’s storytelling abilities.
Aircutter standout for its strong songwriting and vocal harmonies and the overall musicianship and arrangements make for a highly promising debut. TV Pins are a band to watch, they beautifully combine commercial appeal with artistic depth
