NEW SINGLE ‘MADE IT PAST OCTOBER’

24yr old alt-pop singer CHELJI is the breath of fresh air and cold hard dose of reality that 21st century pop needs.  Today, the Birmingham-born artist releases new single ‘Made it Past October’ via APEX ERA/Parlophone Music.

The single draws on a depth of dark feelings – grieving the loss of close friends, suicidal thoughts, battles with sobriety and ultimately making it past a dark period in her life. For CHELJI, October represents both life and death – the month which marks her birth, but also the death of close friends. Speaking about the track she says “Made it past October is a reminder that I got lucky, yet I still sometimes wish it were me instead of my friends, it gives me a fight to stay sober… remembering the pain it caused me losing them.  I would never want to give that pain to my friends now.”

With an eclectic mix of influences – her frank and uncompromising songwriting style is a quality shared with her idols Kurt CobainAmy Winehouse and Lil Peep. This openness has resonated with her ever growing fanbase of 1.3 million followers and over 5 million organic streams to date.  She was also crowned as one of the UK’s top 10 most viewed artists on TikTok last year.

The story of CHELJI starts near Birmingham – growing up in “the kind of place where you share sugar with your neighbours” and there’s a “crazy lady on every street.”   Her music career began to take off in the US after her early lo-fi-pop songs started to rocket through Soundcloud and YouTube. She headed to LA on her own and eventually began touring with the likes of American rap collective Internet Money. But after an intense time in the States, a disillusioned  CHELJI returned to her family to take stock of her experiences, ready to pack it all in. Blowing up on TikTok years later with the success of her colossal track ‘Hate Me’, led to a renewed determination to succeed.   With a debut project in the works for later in the year, rather than be destroyed by her experiences, the story of CHELJI is only just beginning.
