CLARENCE
NEW SINGLE
‘NATIONAL ANTHEM’
Out Now
Hotly tipped London newcomer Clarence aka Louis Matlock unleashed a second single entitled ‘National Anthem’ on 24th March via Special Projects.
This fast-paced pop rock ditty pays more than a passing nod to Louis’s Sex Pistols roots and a whole host of other British influences from Jamie T to Blur.
He adds “National Anthem is literally the first ever song I ever wrote. It was the inception of Clarence and a saviour for me personally. Lyrically you could take it kind of politically, but its message is entirely pro-human. It sounds naive and the message is naive too; like a kid wondering why bad people do bad things. It oversimplifies a complicated message, but maybe things have got a little convoluted and we need to strip things back. Touch grass. Breathe. So many people have become jaded, selfish, and anti-human. We’re all in this together, a little childlike naivety and wonder won’t hurt.”
Following a coveted support slot for The Rolling Stones in Hyde Park last summer, Clarence spent 2022 honing his craft as a live performer. With more music on the horizon, a Summer on the road and a devoted fanbase growing by the day, Clarence is setting the tone for an exciting year ahead.
