Cucamaras have released their highly anticipated second EP Buck Rogers Time

Recorded at York’s Young Thugs Studios with producer Jonny Hooker (Low Hummer, Bull, Avalanche Party), Buck Rogers Time is the Nottingham quartet’s long awaited second release, and comes in the wake of a raptuous start to the year which saw Cucamaras named as one of NME’s 100 Essential Artists for 2023, and appear as ones to watch on Dork’s Hype List tour, alongside extensive support from BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Introducing.

Buck Rogers Time features the singles ‘Porcelain’ and ‘Cotton Wool’, alongside new release ‘Bleachers Yard’. A further delve into their sound, ‘Bleacher’s Yard’ effortless captures everything that’s exciting about Cucamaras, as wry vocal delivery impacts over jagged, swaggering instrumentation.

Speaking about the single, co-frontman Olly Bowley said: “‘Bleachers Yard’ is part sleazy-motivational, part sincere – it’s someone who is split between coming to terms with things or lives in ignorance, making promises of million dollar handshakes but hoping the recipient doesn’t remember should it come true

“I was never at Bleachers Yard” – I never had a leg to stand on, I was never in a position to give advice.”

Speaking about Buck Rogers Time, co-frontman Joshua Hart said: “Buck Rogers Time is a phrase that I believe is used in American prisons; which refers to a prison sentence so long that you’ll never get out. The theme of being stuck in purgatory, or longing for more is one that has featured quite a lot in our music, right from our early stuff.

The name of the EP doesn’t necessarily encapsulate pessimism though, our own attachment to the name is symbiotic with the urgency and feel of the music on the EP, and also where we’re at as a band right now. Everything from Olly’s “the time is now” lyrics in Bleachers Yard to our personal belief that we’re in the right place, at the right time, with the music on this record. So that’s why it’s called Buck Rogers Time.”

Nottingham’s hottest prospects, the four piece have been making waves with their definitive, genre-spanning sound that incorporates elements of post-punk, indie and art pop to create something remarkable and unique. 2022 saw the band release their debut EP ‘Soft Soap’, which garnered rapturous praise from BBC Radio 1, NME, Clash and more, cementing their place as an outfit to watch.
