U.S. HEADLINE SUMMER TOUR ANNOUNCED
PLAYING LOLLAPALOOZA AUGUST 4TH
SUPPORTING VAMPIRE WEEKEND THIS AUTUMN ON THEIR U.S. TOUR
Beloved New York alt-pop duo Cults, comprised of Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion, have shared their evocative new single, ‘Crybaby’, out today on IMPERIAL; LISTEN HERE. ‘Crybaby’ sees Cults making a welcome return with their first new music in two years, hinting at more on the horizon from the multi-platinum duo.
On ‘Crybaby’ right out of the gate, symphonic bells toll above a tribal beat laced with a dissonant guitar riff. Shaky tambourine gives way to a swooning horn section, and Madeline’s croon echoes with a lament, “Crybaby, you waste a lot of time it seems.” The track keeps in the tradition of Cults cinematic sound, with a breezy, infectious hook. ‘Crybaby’ was co-written by Oblivion and Follin and produced by Cults and longtime cohort Shane Stoneback.
Speaking about the new single, Cults comment, “‘Crybaby’ marks a new direction of exploration. We experimented with a lighter sound influenced by The Crystals, Joe Meek & Kraftwerk. A fun song but also a call out to both sides of codependency.”
Cults will be hitting the road in a big way in the coming months, with their own headline tour, a stop at Lollapalooza, and supporting Vampire Weekend on their U.S. tour this autumn. The headline North American run kicks off August 1st. See below for a complete Cults tour itinerary.
With over 1.5 billion streams and over 12 million monthly listeners on Spotify, Cults have built a world anchored by four acclaimed albums, and a distinct, mesmerising sound. Their loyal legion of fans includes early devotees, as well as new converts who organically discovered them along the way.
Their virality is a testament to the band’s relatable lyricism and authenticity which consistently resonates with audiences. The staple ‘Always Forever’ reached RIAA platinum status, and the track ‘Gilded Lily’ endured as a phenomenon. It took TikTok by storm with 200K-plus “creates” in 2022 and notched a gold certification. They appeared on J. Cole’s 6x-platinum smash ‘She Knows’ [feat. Cults & Amber Coffman] in addition to co-writing with everyone from G-Eazy to Freddie Gibbs. Beyond selling out venues on headline tours and shining on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, they graced the bills of Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and more.
