They say a great story has a great beginning, middle, and ending. The same can be said for a great concert. We certainly got a great beginning with the boys from Devour the Day. This band, from Memphis, Tennessee, put on a seven-song performance that was epic. The music and words pull directly from their lives and provide an in-depth look at the adversity they have encountered and conquered. Writing is a large part of their therapy and their latest EP, Fragments of Us was a large part of their healing process. They closed their set with their latest release “Empty” from Fragments.

The middle of our story continues with another band from Memphis Tennessee. Sleep Theory fuses hard rock with funk and does it better than any other band on the planet. After a recorded version of Mariah Carey’s, “All I Want for Christmas” the show began. Vocalist Cullen Moore was brought on stage in a wheelchair as he had a cast over his foot and leg. He was able to perform without the wheelchair, but his movements were obviously limited. Moore is a former member of the U.S. Army and his transfer from military-corps to metal-core is astounding. Relatively speaking the band is very young having technically formed in 2019, but they put on a show like they’ve been around for decades. This is a testament to the band’s hard work and professional attitude. They kicked their set off with their top Spotify song, “Fallout”. The fans knew this song and sang eagerly along. The band engages with the crowd at every opportunity and even pauses to take turns signing a young fan’s sign that boasted he had skipped school for the show. They recently released the song “Paralyzed” which is a song that speaks about inner battles and our desire to overcome those barriers. Please check out the band when and if you can.

Daughtry and his blacked-out sleeves made his way on stage to a ruckus crowd. The final chapters of tonight’s story will be stellar and unforgettable. Daughtry’s unique sound and style pierced through the air as “The Reckoning”, “Changes Are Coming”, and “Worlds on Fire” kicked off their 15-song setlist. The set was emotional and fierce. The passion behind each song lifted the crowd to higher levels of energy. It was obvious from the get-go that this was going to be a memorable experience. The powerful vocals echoed around the arena while the sound of guitars and drums cranked up the volume past 11. For the most part, the sound is ferocious and unapologetic, but there was a two-song acoustic moment where Chris Daughtry really got to showcase his vocals. The audience was captivated, and he and they reached a level of connection not often acquired during a live show. There was a two-song encore, which included, “The Dam” and “Artificial”. It felt like a perfect way to end this spectacular rock show. Omaha is always welcoming when Daughtry is in town, and they will always turn up in droves to support him and his band. If you missed this show, be sure you do all you can to see the next one. As for this one, if it were indeed a book, I’m sure it would have made any best sellers list. THE END.

Wasn’t good enough to be on stage as a performer, so the next best thing was to photograph the people who are. Shooting my R6’s is nearly as great as holding my Strat. Getting up close to an artist and feeding off the crowd is exhilarating. Concert photography allows me the opportunity to capture a once in a lifetime live moment and then share it socially.
