Devon returns with a potent new single today, a surging alt pop gem that’s as haunting as it is anthemic. Stream ‘BULLETS‘ here. His first new material in almost a year, ‘BULLETS’ shows a marked progression in Devon’s songwriting and style – the fruits of an extensive creative spell for the emerging solo artist. The track is written and self-produced at his home in one of the most remote areas in the UK, the Forest of Dean. This place provides a backdrop and the kind of isolation of that fosters such a strong DIY ethic, as well a unique and curious outlook on which to draw inspiration. From his secluded base, Devon’s international fanbase keeps expanding online and now sees him sign with the multinational New York headquartered label ONErpm. Devon’s highly successful run of singles from early 2020 to mid 2021 largely demonstrate his flair for colourful guitar pop hits, whilst ‘BULLETS’ takes a step a new direction – one that was sparked from the very origin of the song.
Devon explains how the idea appeared after abandoning a song he had be working on all week, as he decided to experiment with something new. “Whilst it’s not an instrument I’ve really learnt to play I grabbed a keyboard and immediately stumbled on the chords, and from there the lyrics came so easily, the whole song was written in a day. It sounds cliche but it really did feel like this one came from the sky or something, it just dropped in my lap.”Shedding light on the song’s haunting subject matter, Devon adds… “The song is basically about being betrayed by someone and the stupid feeling you’re left with after someone walks all over you. You just feel like a ghost of yourself”. From his breakout single ‘I DONT WANT 2 B UR FRIEND‘ which has wracked up with 3.5 million streams, to last years staggering sleeper hit ‘WARNING SIGNS‘, Devon’s track record is so far spotless. With more expected to come in 2022, ‘BULLETS‘ is a bold return that sees the singular talent of one of the UK’s most promising artists blooming. ‘Bullets’ by Devon is out now via ONErpm.
