REVEALS LAIDBACK SOUL-INSPIRED NUMBER ‘OUT OF CONTEXT’TAKEN FROM THE SINGER-SONGWRITER AND PRODUCER’S NEW MIXTAPE ‘SOMEWHERE IN NOWHERELAND’COMING THIS AUTUMN
Rising alt-pop star Devon has revealed brand new single ‘OUT OF CONTEXT’ A laidback, soul and jazz-influenced number that shines a light on the warmth and depth of the musician’s voice, the hints of a candied brass section, smooth percussion and gospel-style backing vocals all marry together on the track to create the perfect summertime ode. Elaborating on the track Devon explains, ““OUT OF CONTEXT’ was born out of the second session I did with Bath natives Bad Sounds who are close collaborators with me. The song started out on the guitar with those chords you hear in the chorus and then we took it to the keyboard which gave it a souly feel. The song touches on the fear of being trapped in your hometown with no way out. Being stuck in that local routine, never doing anything outside of the local norms for fear of being judged. It also touches on how judge worthy a local community can sometimes be to things that aren’t typically the normal thing to do. It’s a love hate ode to the hometown in a way.” ‘OUT OF CONTEXT’ is taken from Devon’s new mixtape ‘SOMEWHERE IN NOWHERELAND’, due for release this September, and includes triumphant return ‘BULLETS’, his first new material in almost a year which saw him land on the BBC Radio 1 playlist, as well as the effervescent alt-pop gem ‘GIRLFRIEND SONG’. Across a total of seven songs these new tracks show a marked progression in Devon’s songwriting and style – the fruits of an extensive creative spell for the emerging solo artist.

Hailing from the Forest of Dean, where his more recently material has all been written and self-produced, the location of his home boasts to be one of the most remote areas in the UK. This place provides a backdrop and the kind of isolation of that fosters such a strong DIY ethic, as well a unique and curious outlook on which to draw inspiration. From his secluded base, Devon’s international fanbase keeps expanding online and now sees him sign with the multinational New York headquartered label ONErpm.
Devon’s highly successful run of singles from early 2020 to mid 2021 largely demonstrate his flair for colourful guitar pop hits. More recently ‘BULLETS‘ proved he was able to excel in the alt-pop arena and ‘GIRLFRIEND SONG‘ evidenced Devon’s diversity across genres as he revisits more indie-leaning soundscapes.
From his breakout single ‘I DONT WANT 2 B UR FRIEND‘ which has wracked up with 3.5 million streams, to last year’s staggering sleeper hit ‘WARNING SIGNS‘, Devon’s track record is so far spotless.
