DOVES prove themselves worth waiting for as the short delay in releasing their upcoming album, Constellations For The Lonely, provides opportunity to trail an extra song from the 10-strong track listing. The three-piece have shared the Jimi Goodwin-fronted Saint Teresa to reset the countdown for a Fri 28 February 2025 release of their long-awaited sixth studio album.

Adding to the sense of occasion around the release of the album, Doves have added to a limited, and therefore instantly SOLD OUT, run of special, fan-focused events with three immersive Jodrell Bank Observatory album listening parties. Complete with atmospheric, spacey visual accompaniments, the band takes over the state-of-the-art First Light Pavilion at the astrophysics centre to premiere a specially commissioned 5.1 surround sound mix of Constellations For The Lonely this Thu 13 February 2025.

Initially generated by a late-night internet search by Goodwin, Saint Teresa finds Doves turning to the enigmas of religious history and bringing the story of Teresa of Ávila to their songbook. The 16th Century Spanish nun and reformer caught the band’s imagination after discovering that her burial, pre-canonisation, was interrupted. Following two, initial exhumations, numerous body parts were removed and taken to locations in Rome, Paris, Lisbon and elsewhere.

It set a trail of thought in motion, over 300 years later, that led to Saint Teresa’s creation, with the first versions being toyed with by the band and temporarily rested. The extended period of writing finally brought the sensitively struck, enigmatic and gently upbeat track to Constellations For The Lonely’s open door.

Goodwin says: “By keeping it to one side, we were able to reappraise it and make it better. Andy and Jez helped out with it and it’s great that it’s found a home. My Catholicism went out of the window years ago, but I love the iconography associated with the church. They put on a really good show. I identify with it all from my childhood. The story of Saint Teresa is fascinating.”

“Sometimes songs can be like a Rubik’s Cube,” adds Jez Williams. “You play with it but have to go back to it after a time and, only then, do you really know what to do with it. ‘Saint Teresa’ was still knocking on the door when we came to record the album, so we took it into sessions with Dan (Austin – co-producer), replacing some of it, changing a few of the lyrics and it turned out great.”

Saint Teresa joins two previous singles released from the album, the dystopian vision of future Manchester that was Renegade and the widely radio playlisted, Jez and Andy Williams-fronted Cold Dreaming. Originally set for a release date of Valentine’s Day, the additional two-week wait to hear Constellations For The Lonely in full comes as a result of unforeseen manufacturing issues. On release, the album becomes available in multiple formats, including standard and special, limited edition vinyl variants, CD, cassette and digital.

Humbled by the response to news that Doves would hit the road again in 2025, playing their first run of indoor headline shows since 2010, the band sets out on 16 UK-wide dates later this month, starting at Glasgow’s SWG3 on Tue 25 February. With most shows SOLD OUT and few tickets remaining for others, the overwhelmingly positive reaction to the announcement that Jez and Andy Williams would front the band this time, without Goodwin, has shown the strength of the bond between Doves fans, the band and their over 25-year-strong back catalogue.

Constellations For The Lonely is the follow-up to the band’s third UK Official Albums Chart No.1 album, 2020’s The Universal Want. Doves emerged in 2000 with the release of Lost Souls, the first of their two, Mercury Award-nominated albums, followed by The Last Broadcast in 2002, which was also their first to top the British album chart. 2005’s Kingdom Of Rust was their second to reach the same chart pinnacle, prior to an unannounced hiatus after fulfilling their touring commitments in 2010.
