‘DEAD BANDS” EP
RELEASED 3RD FEBRUARY
Hull four-piece Bedsit have just released their debut EP, “Dead Bands” via their independent label “Forever Underdogs” self-produced and mixed by Nick Russel and mastered by Pete Maher (Pixies, Nick Cave, Garbage, Jack White and many more)
So here I am hitting play and ready to go,
From the first notes of the squealing thrashing guitars intro of “Drip Feed,” you get the feeling this band isn’t going to pull any punches, it’s Punk, but not new punk this is the real late 70’s deal, think the “Dead Kennedys” “Blag Flag” it’s hardcore fast and furious.
“Go Outside” is up next and is followed by the title track, “Dead Bands” which changes things up a bit, and settles into a goth feel, with overtones of that Seattle sound from the early nineties, sort of Soundgarden/ Pearl Jam and still the guitars squeal
“Eloquent” brings the EP to a climatic end, its very metal, with screaming vocals, feedback-driven guitars, pounding drums, driving base and as the EP finishes, I feel like my head has just been in the ring with the gipsy king, but in a good way, if there is such a thing
The whole EP is wonderfully chaotic, its angry with the right amount of cynicism, everything is laid bare, bloody and beaten, it has overtones of Punk, Grunge and Metal a hybrid which I now consider the Bedsit sound, a complete sonic assault on the ears, exciting stuff indeed
