FALL OUT BOY, PLAY INTIMATE SHOW AT BAND ON THE WALL, MANCHESTER UK, 15TH MARCH 2023

Chicago’s prestigious pop-punks Fall Out Boy return to Manchester for a real intimate gig at Band on the Wall.

When Fall Out Boy announced a double-header of intimate shows in the UK a little over a fortnight ago, it was clear that those lucky enough to land tickets were going to be in for something special.

The queues were in place long before the doors opened on this iconic venue and when the doors did open it quickly went to the full 500 capacity. The anticipation was high and why not, it is not often that you get a band that can sell out arenas, into such a small venue.

Manchester’s Northern Quarter has developed over the last few years with The Band On The Wall being the jewel in the crown for music.

Kicking off with the recent single, “Love From The Other Side”, to the roar of a delighted crowd who know how privileged to be here they were. With a new album in the offing, there will be new tracks to savour alongside many old favourites.

The set is filled with crowd-pleasers and surprise deep cuts to keep even the most long-term fans happy. An early outing of “Sugar”, “We’re Going Down” provides the first huge singalong, threatening to blow the roof off and we are barely minutes in. “Do You Want A Tequila?” someone shouts from the crowd. “Sometimes What You Want, And What You Need Are So Different!” the band respond to laughs and applause. New songs from the latest album “So Much (for) Stardust” were played, but the focus very much was on the classics. They played banger after banger, the likes of “Dance, Dance” “American Beauty”, and “Thanks For The Memories” were all given a run out.

Band:

Patrick Stump – Lead Vocals/Keyboards/Percussion

Pete Wentz – Bass Guitar/Backing Vocals

Andy Hurley – Drums

Joe Trohman –Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals/Keyboards

Lead singer Patrick Stump even spoke about how Fall Out Boy wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the Manchester music scene, then joking he was “going to play Wonderwall.” Now that would have been one for the memory.

Then, Patrick said we had to pretend they were walking off for an encore. Completing the set, they played “Centuries” followed by “Saturday”.

What we can take from tonight is that the arena gigs will bring in the crowds for sure, but for the 500 fans in here tonight, this is what being a fan and going to live gigs is, it simply doesn’t get any better.
