#1 on the Irish Official Albums Chart
#2 Netherlands
#3 Belgium
#5 Germany
#7 France
Today, Fontaines D.C. have landed their first number 1 album on the UK Official Albums Chart with their third record “Skinty Fia”. The win comes as the band also secure their first number 1 spot in the Irish Official Albums Chart. Across Europe the album also reaches the Top 5 in The Netherlands (#2), Belgium (#3) and Germany (#5), as well as winning a #7 debut in France.
Speaking on their UK chart-topping position, the band had the following to say: “We’re touched by everyone’s response to Skinty Fia, thank you to everyone who bought, streamed or downloaded it. Love FDC x”
“Skinty Fia” was released on 22nd April via Partisan Records and was met with widespread international acclaim and adoration from fans and media alike. Having returned from pandemic lockdown at the start of the year to play a sold-out show to 10,000 people at Alexandra Palace, the band were promptly named “Best Band In The World” at the 2022 BandLab NME Awards in March, before donning the covers of multiple international publications, scoring playlisting on BBC Radio 1, hosting a ten-part Artists In Residence series for BBC Radio 6 Music, and playing a Maida Vale session for Steve Lamacq. As the band continues their largely sold-out North American tour, they also returned to US national television earlier this week with an incendiary performance of the new album’s closing track “Nabokov” on Late Night With Seth Meyers

With many of the band’s forthcoming North American tour dates selling out or having venues upgraded, Fontaines D.C. are also set to play a short run of UK shows with record stores in May 2022 in support of the new album. These shows come ahead of an extensive run of festival appearances including the band’s return to Glastonbury Festival, a headline slot on the BBC Sounds stage at Latitude Festival, as well as a main stage appearance at Reading & Leeds, and a Future Sounds stage performance at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend. The band will also play an extensive UK / IE headline tour later this year in Nov / Dec 2022, with many further dates being added due to popular demand, including a third date at Eventim Apollo in London.
