Electronic Icon Gary Numan is currently out on his 2023 North American Tour which combines his own headline shows alongside dates supporting Ministry. Numan who rose to fame in the late 1970s and early 1980s is known for his pioneering work in electronic music and his distinctive voice and stage presence. Some of his most famous songs include “Cars,” “Are Friends Electric?,” and “Down in the Park.” Over the course of his career, Gary Numan has released over 20 studio albums and has been a major influence on a wide range of artists in the electronic, industrial, and alternative rock genres. His music has been celebrated for its innovative use of synthesizers and other electronic instruments, as well as for its introspective and often dark lyrics.
Tuesday’s stop of the tour at New York’s Webster Hall was a delight to all senses! The show is dark and moody, the light show is well orchestrated. Gary joined on stage by his band Steve Harris on guitar, Jimmy Lucido on Drums, David Brooks on Keyboards & Tim Slade on Bass, all dressed to match Gary’s raggy “Mad Max” attire supporting his 2021 release Intruder. It’s loud and aggressive and beautiful, Gary sounding fresh as ever and there’s no mistaking his unique sound. It becomes clear how over the years his influence has molded acts like Nine Inch Nails & Marilyn Manson to name a few. He’s like a bolt of lightning on stage. Gary doesn’t address the crowd and plows through his 12-song set, one punch after the other, without apologies, and delivers a truly unforgettable concert! Chatting with some fans after the show, one of them summed it up best by saying: “One of the most epic, transcendent, surreal, killer shows ever!”
