girlpuppy, the musical project from Atlanta, GA, USA’s Becca Harvey, shares the new video for “Windows” directed by Trent Wayne (MJ Lenderman, Sinai Vessel). “Windows” is the newest girlpuppy single available now on Captured Tracks.

Inspired in part by the dreamy sonics of Yo La Tengo, the gauzy and melodically stunning “Windows” captures the bittersweet sadness of a breakup—the way memories of a past partner linger no matter how hard you try to move on, knowing they’re likely feeling the same. The bridge pays homage to one of girlpuppy’s all-time favourite songs, Fleetwood Mac’s “Silver Springs”, adding a personal and nostalgic touch. As the chorus repeats a refrain of ‘you’ (“you, you-u-u-u, you, you, you, you”), girlpuppy reflects on the relationship with a sense of love and acceptance, embracing the beauty of what was.

Becca Harvey shares: “My friend Tom (who plays bass and piano on the track) describes ‘Windows’ as ‘the most girlpuppy song he’s ever heard.’ I’m in love with this song instrumentally because it reminds me of Yo La Tengo, who I was listening to so much of while making this single. ‘Windows’ is about the sadness of a breakup and how no matter how hard you try, you still find things that remind you of your past partner and you know they’re going through the same thing.

“Windows” has already been named one of Paste’s Best New Songs and was featured by Exclaim! as a Staff Pick, following acclaimed previous single “Champ” released in December with a boxing video directed by Benni Shumlin and Augie Voss, which was supported by ClashThe Line Of Best Fit, and Dork, while The FADER deemed it one of their Songs You Need In Your Life

Becca Harvey made her girlpuppy debut in 2020 with the lo-fi guitar pop of the single, “For You”, followed by the self-described “sad girl” indie of 2021’s Swan EP. In 2022, “I Miss When I Smelled Like You”, the Atlanta-based singer and songwriter’s foray into ‘70s-indebted arena pop, saw her team up for a one-off with Doug Schadt (Maggie Rogers). Her expansive 2022 full length debut, When I’m Alone, was recorded with Alex G guitarist Sam Acchione and engineered and mixed by Slow Pulp’s Henry Stoehr. girlpuppy’s music has gained notice from the likes of ClashThe Line Of Best FitThe FADERBrooklyn Vegan, and Under The Radar among others, and Becca Harvey has appeared on the How Long Gone podcast and did an interview with Matt Berninger of The National for The Creative Independent, and even caught the attention of Charli XCX who replied to one of Becca’s videos on TikTok. girlpuppy has also toured extensively both headlining and supporting the likes of DIIVNation of LanguageSloppy JaneBecca MancariHovvdyWhitmer Thomas, and Matt Maltese among others, and has made festival appearances including Shaky KneesLatitude Festival, and Riot Fest. Her next confirmed show is in her hometown Atlanta, GA on January 25th for the third annual Abortion Access Benefit. More info and tickets HERE.
