Grammy nominated Sylvan Esso reveal their next era with new single ‘Your Reality’ via Loma Vista

Their next era!

“Let me remember how to live my life, were there rules originally, or are we learning how to be?”

Today, with the release of a surreal new single ‘Your Reality’Sylvan Esso enter their next era. Describing their first three albums as a trilogy that is now complete, Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn stand at the start of a period that is stranger and more cathartic than the band has ever been. Featuring a string arrangement from Gabriel Kahane, and delicately frenetic drums by TJ Maiani, the slippery, complexly layered single serves as the opening to a chapter, a reference point “for how weird we can take it,” says Sanborn. “How bare and strange something can be.”

Over a sparse, skittering pattern of percussive synth, Amelia Meath remembers how to live. She swims in the air and walks in the sky, while asking a question that has preoccupied the post-pandemic world: “Were there rules originally, or are we learning how to be?” From the depths of the mix an echoing bed of backing vocals answers, “No rules.”

‘Your Reality’ follows the scorching arrival of recent single ‘Sunburn’, which The New York Times praised as “bouncy and pointillistic,” and Rolling Stone described as “a study in contrasts, detailing the exhilaration of pursuing pleasure and pushing the envelope.” After debuting the track for tens of thousands of fans across three nights at the Historic Durham Athletic Park, as well as an Austin City Limits taping, spring tour and a stop at Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival last month, Sylvan Esso will bring both of the new songs to a headlining set at Electric Forest Festival this weekend.

Over the coming months, summer will also see Sylvan Esso play Newport Folk Festival, Life is Beautiful and more than 30 arena and amphitheater shows with ODESZA. Find information for all upcoming tour dates at
