Trailblazer Halina Rice is an artist pushing the boundaries of electronic music, forging a new path that prioritises immersive experiences over traditional streaming models. Recognised by the UK’s PPL Momentum Fund and the BPI’s Music Export Growth Scheme for her work with innovative technology and captivating audio-visual performances, Rice is carving out a unique space in the music landscape.
Embarking on a European tour starting this March, Halina will play dates at iconic venues including Manchester New Century, Bristol’s SWX, Glasgow SWG3, Nottingham Rock City, Newcastle University, Leeds Project House, Liverpool Arts Club Theatre, Sheffield Leadmill and two dates at Brighton’s The Old Market.
Rice’s live performances are a far cry from the typical club experience. Drawing inspiration from the worlds of contemporary art and experimental music, she creates a captivating audiovisual experience that is both intimate and expansive. Utilising emotive electronic music paired with cutting-edge visual art, Rice immerses audiences in a sonic and visual journey that is both thought-provoking and deeply moving.
“My focus is on creating a truly live, in-person experience,” says Rice. “Streaming can be a valuable tool, but I believe in the power of direct connection with audiences. The energy and immediacy of live performance are irreplaceable.”
This commitment to live proficiency has been recognised by industry leaders. Rice was recently selected to receive PPL Momentum funding, a prestigious award that supports artists at a critical stage in their careers. Past recipients include numerous Mercury Prize nominees and winners such as Little Simz, Ghostpoet and Public Service Broadcasting, highlighting the significance of this achievement and shapes a new way for artists to independently focus on their music career.
With international ambitions firmly in her sights, Rice also previously received Music Export Growth Scheme funding from the BPI, enabling her to expand her reach beyond the UK and resulting in sold out headline shows across Europe last year. This support reflects the growing international interest in her unique and innovative approach to electronic music.
Integral to Rice’s work is the creation of dynamic and encompassing live immersive experiences. In 2020, she launched her groundbreaking NEW WORLDS project – where each release comprised both music and the creation of a unique visual environment. Since then, she has continued to experiment with innovative technology, working with lead visual designer Freny Antony and often being one of the first to take the plunge into what is now a rising trend in immersive experiences.
This week, Rice has been commissioned by PRS Foundation, Southbank Centre and Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture to compose a new piece of music to be performed at the critically acclaimed, free festival, New Music Biennial. Presented in partnership with BBC Radio 3, Rice will perform a bespoke piece with the BBC Symphony and BBC Concert Orchestras at Bradford St Georges Hall and London’s Southbank Centre this summer. More information here.
2025 will also see Rice perform at POLYGON LIVE & 360 AUDIO FESTIVAL on May 2nd in Crystal Palace Park. This will be the first fully spatialised festival in the UK, using nearly 200 speakers to deliver the music in spatial audio and on a lineup including electronic music luminaries such as Jon Hopkins.
Rice said: “This festival is a fantastic showcase of cutting-edge audio technology, and I’m thrilled to be performing there. It’s a continuation of my exciting journey with POLYGON LIVE, having previously had the honour of performing with them in Thailand before Christmas. This festival promises to be an immersive and unforgettable experience for audiences, and I can’t wait to share my music in this unique and innovative format.”
Nottingham born, London-based Halina Rice is an artist consistently finding ways to evolve and has established herself as a leading figure in the contemporary electronic scene.
